8 Ways You Can Start Being A Better Girlfriend Today

by Laura Wigodner

There's a big stereotype that the man has to wear the pants in a relationship and he has to do all the romantic work. While this is a very traditional concept that's been going on for centuries, it's not very ideal.

As a girlfriend, it's important to step your game up and show your boyfriend how much you love him. You have to make sure he realizes that you would do anything for him.

Here are eight tips to help you be the girlfriend of your guy's dreams:

1. Give him little romantic surprises.

Even guys like to be wooed. Send him a cute text message, write him a love letter or buy him his favorite candy. Whatever you choose to do, it doesn't have to be a grand gesture.

Doing something sweet for him every once in a while will make him feel like the luckiest guy on the planet. Actions speak louder than words when it comes to expressing your love.

2. Let him be emotional.

Due to society, guys tend to feel like they always need to be tough and manly. Let him know that it's OK for him to break down if he needs to and show him that you'll be his shoulder to cry on.

Never make him feel ashamed of being sad because sadness is a human emotion -- not just a female one.

3. Do things that you don't want to do.

Whether it's watching a movie that you're not interested in, or going to a place you'd rather avoid, you should just suck it up and do it for him.

You don't necessarily have to do this all the time, but do it every once in a while to surprise him. It'll show him how much you care, plus you have to repay him for all those chick flicks you make him sit through.

4. Buy him tickets to see his favorite band or sports team.

When you need to think of a gift idea for your boo, look no further. Buying him tickets to see his favorite band, or to go to his favorite sporting event will make him over the moon excited.

You don't even have to wait for a special occasion to buy him tickets, you can just surprise him at a random time.

5. Encourage him to hang with his bros.

Even if he wants to spend every second with you, remind him it's important for him to hang out with his friends as well.

Don't be that girl who gets mad at her SO for having a guys night; he deserves to be with his dudes every once in a while. Being happy for him when he has fun without you shows him you respect him which leads to a healthier relationship.

6. Don't cause unnecessary drama.

Always be honest with him when he's done something to upset you, or make you mad. If you just shut him out and leave him clueless you'll stir up pointless drama.

Instead of texting him “K” when you're mad, call him and say what's on your mind. Guys can't read minds, so don't make it difficult for them.

7. Cheer him up when he's down.

Even if your guy tries to brush off his feelings and claim that he's OK after being upset about something, don't assume he's really OK.

It won't take a lot for you to cheer him up, any little thing you do will help him. Work your magic to make him smile and laugh, or take him out to his favorite restaurant. Your extra care will make him feel at ease.

8. Never take him for granted.

Make sure to always show appreciation for everything that he does for you. It's nice to feel loved and wanted, but you can't be selfish in a relationship.

You have to make him feel the same way that he makes you feel. As long as you always express to him how much you care, he'll feel confident in your love and you'll have a healthy, happy relationship.
