Why Adele Will Always Be The Perfect Artist To Listen To After A Breakup

by Jamie LeeLo

I think I speak on behalf of all of us when I say there is not one soul on this planet who understands love, heartache and breakups more thoroughly and accurately than Adele Laurie Blue Adkins.

(That's her name. Look it up.)

Sure, if you've been around since her debut album, you might remember her break-out song "Chasing Pavements," but it wasn't until she burst through the stratosphere with the ultimate love ballad of all time, "Someone Like You" and the "21" album, in 2012 that the world stood up and really paid attention.

Holy moly, is that song the most sweet, sweet, misery. It acts as a perfect "exhibit a" as to why she is and always will be the perfect artist to listen to after a break up.

I mean, the girl gets it. Like REALLY gets it. And totally deserves her five Grammy nominations this year.

Let's break down why Adele is always going to be the perfect cure-all for your heartbreak, shall we?

She explains feelings you have you didn't even know you had.

I MEAN, RIGHT?! ISN'T THAT ALL ANY OF US EVER WANT? WHY DO YOU THINK SO MANY OF US STALK OUR EXES?!

What I'm getting at is, breakups are hardly ever mutual. Someone is left with lots to say and no opportunity to say it. Here, Adele beautifully summarizes the injustice of it all, essentially saying, "Hey. Just want to remind you, I didn't want this. And I'm not done with us."

Ugh, kill me now. Listen to this song late at night and just feel all the feels Adele tells you you're feeling cause she's right always. Seriously, don't you dare question her. OK, bye.

Feelings you never knew you had: I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded that for me, it isn't over

Adele knows that breakups are hardly ever mutual.

She shows you that you will one day move on.

ADELE. YOU WISE-BEYOND-YOUR-LITERAL-28-YEARS-OF-AGE ANGEL. FUCK.

You know that feeling when you find out your ex is seeing someone else? Well, in "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)," Adele freaking nails it. The juxtaposition of growing up and getting wiser while simultaneously looking for closure with an old flame is HEAVY, man.

Let this upbeat tempo and her goddess voice soothe you into comfort and maturity.

Proof you'll be OK: Send my love to your new lover / Treat her better / We've gotta let go of all of our ghosts / We both know we ain't kids no more

She reminds you you aren't alone out there "on the other side."

IT'S TOO MUCH. TOO MUCH!!! LOVE IS ENDLESS, AND WE'RE ALL JUST AT ITS MERCY.

Just when you think she can't break your heart any further, she whips out this crazy ballad after a multi-year hiatus and reminds us all that we are never actually over anything. And guess what? It doesn't matter if it's been 10 days or 10 years, we're all just humans standing outside screaming "HELLOOO?!?!?!?!?!?"

This is the perfect tune to play if your breakup was a while ago, but the skeletons are still lingering. Blast it in the car, let the memories surround you and cry, baby. Cry.

Proof you're not alone in your heartbreak: They say time's supposed to heal ya, but I ain't done much healing

She understands this is a big scene in your personal movie.

YES, GOD DAMN IT. YES. IT WAS JUST LIKE A MOVIE. HOW DOES SHE KNOW?!

Again, I can't stress this enough, Adele knows everything about relationships, breakups, love and ugly crying alone in your kitchen while stress-eating ice cream.

(I mean, I can't confirm that last part, but I bet in her next album, she sings about it!)

Listen to this song while you're — you guessed it — ugly crying alone in your kitchen while stress-eating ice cream.

The nostalgia: It was just like a movie / it was just like a song / my god it reminds me / of when we were young

She ensures you won't be alone forever (BECAUSE YOU HAVE HER).

UM, THANK YOU. GLAD SOMEONE SAID IT!

What IF you never love again? Well, at least you know you can go to sleep at night with the warmth of her silky, honey voice swaddled in the density of her insane eyelashes.

Listen to this song on a long-ass drive to nowhere, and just let your heart go.

Proof you're not alone: Give me a memory I can use / Take me by the hand while we do what lovers do / It matters how this ends / 'Cause what if I never love again?

Don't miss her take over the world and continue to steal hearts at the Grammy's this upcoming Sunday, and brace yourselves for her performance because one thing is for sure, you gonna cry girl. GIRL. YOU GONNA CRY.
