The first moment you realize your ex has moved on hurts like a total bitch.

You've been blindsided, and can't help but feel like complete and utter shit.

He may have cheated, or you may have cheated. You may have figured out the both of you have different goals and were embracing opposite paths in life.

Even if you were the one who ended things with him, the pain is never any less difficult to endure.

Take Bella Hadid, for example. She was caught in the act peaking at an oh-so adorable picture of her and ex-boyfriend The Weeknd, just a little over a month before news broke he was dating Selena Gomez.

UM, OUCH.

It hurts the most if a guy didn't even have the decency to tell you he has a new girlfriend, and you heard it through the grapevine… or worse, saw pictures of the two of them together on social media.

You quickly learn a big-ass glass of wine and an entire pint of chocolate peanut butter ice cream does not get the job done as you'd hoped it would.

He's over you, while you're still trying to put your life back together and cope.

There are so many emotions going through your head, whether you wanted things to work out between the two of you, or not.

I'm sure Bella Hadid was heartbroken when pictures broke the internet of her ex-love making out with Selena.

She even admitted she'll "always love" The Weeknd in a recent Teen Vogue interview.

It'll be hard for a while. Love hurts, but you have to pull through.

And sometimes, as hard as it is to believe, a new girl in your ex-boyfriend's life is exactly what you need to move on.

Here's why:

1. She makes you forgive.

Sure, things could have been handled differently. But don't waste any of your time dwelling on the past. It's time to forgive, forget and move on.

He already took that jump and put himself back out there, so why shouldn't you, too?

2. She motivates you to get your confidence back.

That confidence you thought you lost in the breakup was actually never lost at all. It was simply put off to the side until now, and it's what you need to get back on your game.

3. She makes you accept reality.

It may have been a major slap in the face, but you've come to terms with the obvious.

This is one thing you cannot control, so it's beneficial to focus on the things you can on your OWN life.

4. She makes you focus.

Your eyes are wide open now, and you've taken the blinders off for good.

5. She makes you more self-aware.

Reflect on the times you laughed and cried. Grow and learn from them.

6. She makes you reassured.

Just as much as it makes you feel like a ton of bricks were dropped on your head, your ex is going to feel super crummy once he sees you've moved on, too.

7. She sets you free.

Whatever you were holding on to, you learn how to let go.

The mere fact that your ex has someone else in his life can cut deep into your heart, and the wound takes awhile to heal.

But, there's a light of hope in that tunnel of darkness... and you actually have the new girl your ex is dating to thank for it.

Even if you low-key despise her, she gets you out of that post-breakup funk you can't seem to get free from. She makes you want to move on, and put all of your focus into your present, and future.
