How To Plan The Perfect Date
So – you’ve met a hot girl and you’ve finally worked up the courage to ask her out, and she said yes! Well, you might think that the hard work is over, but you are distinctly mistaken my friend – now you need to plan the perfect date to sweep her off her Manolos and onto your Pratesi sheets.
Here are a few pointers to get you started:
Plan
There is nothing more disconcerting for a woman than a man who doesn’t know what he wants, so make sure she knows that you have initiative and can think ahead by coming up with a plan – and I don’t just mean “oh, I guess we’ll just grab dinner somewhere…” Don’t throw the ball back in her court and ask her what she wants to do – you are the one who asked her out so it’s your duty to come up with an agenda for the evening.
Inform her of the evening’s plan prior
While women certainly love surprises, we don’t love being overdressed or underdressed for any event. Also, keep in mind that even though you may only start getting ready for a date a couple hours prior, a woman will start planning her outfit, her hair, her nails, and her iPhone cover as soon as you have asked her out.
Save your date the stress and call her a few days prior to the big night to inform her what you have planned – while women like you to take control, we also like to feel comfort in the fact that we know what’s upcoming.
Pick a date-suitable restaurant
With literally thousands of restaurants at your fingertips, you probably think this would be a piece of cake, right? Wrong. Here are a few cuisines you may want to steer away from for the first date: sushi, although delicious, may be too ambitious for date number one because you never know if she consumes raw fish.
Certain ethnic cuisines such as Ethiopian and Moroccan might sound exotic enough to impress, but the majority of their foods veer towards the spicy side making it another risky meal choice.
Some safe choices include Italian, steakhouses (dude – no one wants to date a vegetarian. It’s just a prelude to the lack of blowjobs you’ll have to deal with) and all American restaurants.
Always pick somewhere that the noise level is relatively low in order to be able to hold a conversation, and please, don’t pick a place you frequent with your buddies or an ex – knowing your luck that crazy bitch will be sitting at the next table giving you death stares.
And always, ALWAYS make a reservation.
Pick an after dinner bar
Assuming the dinner goes well, it never hurts to know of a wine or cocktail bar nearby in order to indulge in some after dinner drinks. After all, with more alcohol comes less inhibitions – I believe Stan Lee said that originally…or something like it.
Pick a venue within walking distance so you can nonchalantly mention during dinner “oh there is a great bar 2 blocks away from here if you want to check it out after dinner?” This puts the ball in her court, and also is a great way to tell if she’s into you. Also, if she says no you don’t have to feel like an asshole when you split the bill.
Follow Up
Listen – we know you guys love to play the ‘can’t call her until 4 days after the date’ game. You know what? That game sucks ass. If you had a great time on the date, surprise her by not being a complete douchebag and call her the next day to thank her for a lovely evening, or maybe even shock her by asking her out for a second date. GASP!
And under absolutely no circumstances does follow up mean a post on her Facebook wall or a tweet. While a text is acceptable, man up, pick up the phone and give her a call.
You’ll have her eating out of your hands in no time.
