Nerd Out: 8 Reasons Why Geeky Girls Make The Best Girlfriends

by Dan Scotti

Anyone who’s seen the movie “She’s All That” or has watched the first season of “Freaks and Geeks” (and wondered why it got canceled) could tell you the benefits of dating a “nerdy” girl.

Sure, these types of girls are different – they might be quirky – but they also bring a certain set of traits to the table you wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere (and I’m not solely referring to rare collectibles either).

Geeky girls are a breath of fresh air – much like the inhaler they might keep inside of their canvas satchels (alongside some pamphlets on quantum theories).

They’re a break from the norm, one I recommend every man try taking before settling on the chick with the LV monogram clutch.

Here are eight reasons to always give the geeky girl a chance.

1. "Five minutes" actually means five minutes.

Of all the random sh*t geeky girls might obsess over (long algebraic equations, anime flicks, “GoT” memes), their personal appearance is never at the forefront of that list.

And this bodes well for you, as you’ll never be required to wait too long for her to get ready before dates and such.

When she says she’ll be ready in five minutes, she means five minutes.

Unless she gets caught up doing a Sporcle or something strange – then you've got to just roll with the punches, so to speak.

Either way, at least you know she won’t be holding up your dinner reservation “accessorizing.”

2. She’s smarter than you.

It’s never the worst idea to hitch yourself to a geeky chick because – if all else fails – at least you know you’ll be strapping yourself to a bright, intellectual girl for the long haul. Consider this:

If your MacBook breaks, she’ll probably be able to repair the problem sans Applecare.

If you need help studying, I’m sure she’ll be more than willing to lend a hand or some index cards at the very least.

Not to mention smart will always be sexy.

3. You'll never have trouble buying her gifts.

One of the (many) wonderful things about nerdy chicks is that they’re not high-maintenance.

I mean, you could probably buy her a box set of one of her favorite television shows (probably “Thrones” or “Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern”) or a gift certificate to the mall – and you won’t hear a complaint out of her for months.

Material things won’t really spark the interest of these types of women. And you probably won’t realize how much of a blessing this is for you until next Christmas, when you’re shopping for your shorty at Brookstone – chilling in a massage chair – instead of blowing a few paychecks at the Chanel boutique.

 4. She doesn't know how to be bored.

One of the greatest assets a geeky chick will have is her imagination.

There will never be a dull moment when you’re dating these types of women because there will always be something that will spark her interest.

Whether it be a morning walk through the city or a night spent watching funny movies, she’ll never be bored.

It’s honestly such a relief knowing your girl is content just being together with you, without feeling pressured to find “things” to do.

I've always found it unattractive when women say they're bored because how can you stay bored when there's so much beauty in the world (cue Lester Burnham’s voice).

5. She’s as real as it gets.

She's as authentic as the vintage Hall and Oates vinyls she collects. A nerdy chick will feel zero obligation to conform to any type of social standard, whatsoever.

And that’s what makes her so attractive – she’s never afraid to be herself.

For me, there’s no sexier trait than “realness,” and – for better or for worse – she’s always genuine, even when it might be slightly embarrassing.

6. She hasn’t peaked yet.

It sucks dating a girl, only to find out she wishes she could turn back time and return back to her “prime years”  (which was at some point during her junior year of high school).

These types of girls usually have already peaked – and it’s all downhill, shortly thereafter.

That said, nerdy girls typically don’t have the fondest of memories when it comes to (any level of) public schooling, so they’re still budding from a social standpoint.

Who knows what the future has in store for her; give her a few more years, and she might look like Jodi Lyn O’Keefe by the end of “She’s All That.”

7. She understands your geeky passions.

Lord knows you’re pretty weird yourself.

You’re into jazz music. You love betting the entirety of your paycheck on tennis – especially women’s tennis (during clay court season).

You enjoy smoking a bit of weed while watching Food Network and speaking in an Australian accent like Chef Curtis Stone for the remainder of the night.

Hunter S. Thompson is your idol. Jiddu Krishnamurti is your god.

Yeah, she just sort of gets all of this type of stuff.

8. She has geeky passions all her own.

Thankfully, you’ll never have to worry about any of your own weird habits because she’ll always be there to compensate with a few of her own.

Realistically, you find these quirky passions sexy because they’re what set her apart from every other girl out there walking around the street.

Quirkiness is sexy because it’s irreplaceable. You might be dating a sexy chick with blonde hair and blue eyes, but if she left you today, you’d probably be able to find another sexy chick with blonde hair and blue eyes. It might just take some time.

But if your sh*t falls apart with your geeky girlfriend, I reckon it’ll be a whole lot harder to find a girl whose eyes light up at the prospect of Coen brothers movies and delivery pizza.

I’m telling you: That’s the type of sh*t you’ll miss.
