Why Going To A Haunted House Is The Best Date Idea

With Halloween approaching this weekend, you're probably thinking about what you and bae should do to celebrate the holiday.

Whether you're seeing someone new or are just looking for a cute, fun date idea for you and your long-term BF, you might want to consider going to a haunted house.

Now, I'm probably the last person on Earth who should even be suggesting a haunted house as a potential date idea, considering I get scared very easily. But, you have to admit it's a fun idea.

It beats just going out in matching costumes and getting drunk together. (Well, you can do that as well, but technically, you could do that at any time of the year.)

Here are five reasons going to a haunted house is the best date idea ever:

1. It's a classic date idea.

Can we just appreciate for a second how a haunted house is such a good date idea? It's way different from your standard (read: boring) drinks or dinner.

You have the opportunity to get to know each other in a more genuine way because you're not interviewing each other. Instead, you're sharing an experience together, and learning more about one another in the process.

Haunted houses are also seasonal, not as basic as pumpkin picking. So if you hate basic fall stuff, it's a nice change.

2. You can easily turn it into a group date.

If you aren't crazy about this guy, or if you like him but you're nervous to be with just him (in a scary place, mind you), you can turn your haunted evening for two into an outing with a bunch of people.

Bring your friends and ask them to bring their SOs. You can break off into pairs once you're in the haunted house, or, you can walk through as a group (and pull your bestie to the side when you need to tell her about your date).

3. It will amp up your nerves (in a good way).

If you're up for the scares, a haunted house will make you feel all the things you want to feel on a date.

When we're nervous, afraid or out of our comfort zones, we get an adrenaline rush. (Adrenaline junkies, you know what I'm talking about!)

As Christopher Bergland writes for Psychology Today, "A surge of adrenaline makes you feel very alive. It can be an antidote for boredom, malaise and stagnation."

Translation? It can turn your average date into a heart-pounding experience with your SO that you won't forget anytime soon.

So, step outside of your comfort zone and prepare to get scared with this guy. Because what's a date without nerves, anyway? It'd be boring and unremarkable AF.

4. It could even make you like your date more.

Oxytocin, which is a neurotransmitter that's released whenever we hug or touch someone, is also known as "the bonding molecule." So, if you find yourself grabbing onto bae every time you jump from fear, you're actually boosting both his and your levels of oxytocin.

And all that touching could actually make you like him even more.

What could possibly be more romantic than a guy holding your hand or picking you up when you're scared, just like the damsel in distress in Disney movies?

5. If it doesn't go well, you can always hide out... or leave.

The good news about a haunted house is, it's dark inside. So, if you get sick of your date or realize he just isn't "the one," you can Irish exit the hell out of there.

You can't really do that when you go to dinner or drinks (well, I suppose you could try to leave if your date is drunk enough and doesn't notice), but a haunted house is a pretty prime place to ditch a dude who's scaring you... and not in a good way.

But, I'm hoping you won't have to do that.

So pregame a little bit, check out a local haunted house and scare yourself into this guy's arms.
