With the help of a few women bold enough to show us what it really does feel like for a girl, Cubitt has produced a controversial project that requires an upfront confrontation with the big O. The premise of the film project is simple: a woman is asked to read an excerpt from a personally elected body of literature.
She is filmed in black and white. The action takes place below the table she is seated at, where she is being stimulated via vibrator operated by a third party.
As she does her best to recite the excerpt aloud, we witness ::GASP:: a real live woman on a real live climatic journey. What we end up with is a real live treat (that and a pretty convincing shout out to vibrators).
In this project, the subtlety of sexuality’s role in arousal contrasts the overt ribaldry of staged acts often portrayed in any comparable films including but not limited to porn...not to mention the faked performances that occur far too often in the bedroom. The women involved are no strangers to sexuality, but rather professionals in sex/sensuality across varying professions.
Among them, outspoken porn star Stoya and burlesque performer Stormy Leather. Whatever the personal motivation of the participants, their involvement presents an active confrontation with a deep rooted societal fear of female indulgence in pleasure.
