What A Dream About Cheating On Your Boyfriend Means, From An Expert

A while ago, I collaborated with famed dream expert, Lauri Loewenberg, to decode any and all of your freakiest sex dreams. And I've had a guilty conscience about it ever since.

I know there are far freakier sex dreams than the 22 general concepts that are mentioned on that list. We all have deeply personal, weirdly detailed dreams that we sometimes just can't seem to shake out of our heads.

Like, WHY did you dream about that guy from the grocery store yesterday? WHY was he wearing a top hat and nothing else?! What does it mean? Do you have to tell your boyfriend? Are you actually into the weird grocery store guy?!

So, I've decided to start a column. You guys can submit your sex dreams here, and we will have Lauri interpret one dream a week.

This week, we have 23-year-old Veronica*. She recently had a dream about cheating on her boyfriend with a coworker she isn't even remotely attracted to:

I had a dream that someone I work with (who is a higher up) and I were making out and fooling around. But then, my boyfriend was nearby and I stopped. I was scared that he was going to find out and leave. It was all so weird because I have no feelings for this man whatsoever, and he's old! But it was just so weird I had that dream. I can remember being in an old house that I didn't recognize and being so scared and heartbroken, thinking my boyfriend wasn't going to be with me anymore because he was so upset. Is jt's so odd because I've never thought about cheating on him, nor have I even wanted to. And why would I cheat with my older boss? So weird. Trying to figure this dream out.

Here's Lauri's interpretation:

First of all, don't allow this dream to creep you out or make you feel awkward around your boss because it's really not about your boss at all, but more about you. Your dreaming mind is using your boss to convey a message to you. Most likely, your boss symbolizes authority, being in charge, making tough decisions and basically handling things "like a boss." And making out in a dream is really about communication in real life because – like kissing – communication takes two mouths. It seems to me this dream is telling you that there is some issue you need to speak up about and take charge of. Or, it's telling you that you have been communicating like a boss. But which is it? Well, we have two more clues from your dream. You're in an old house, and you're concerned your boyfriend will be upset with you. That's a good indication that this is in regard to an issue or behavior that is "getting old" – you also mentioned your boss is old – and is upsetting your boyfriend. So, what do you do? Dreams don't just have meaning; they also give us solutions. Your solution is the fact that you stopped making out with your boss due to concern over your boyfriend's heart and mind. Let's be honest: Have you been too "bossy" in the relationship? Perhaps that is what your boyfriend feels is getting old. And through this dream, you are realizing it is time to stop...  just as you stopped being naughty with your boss!

I hope this was helpful to Veronica and anyone else who might have had a dream about cheating on a partner.

If you have your own sex dream you'd like to have Lauri interpret, feel free to submit it here. And read our last installment here.
