The 7 Types Of Guys You Should Have A Summer Fling With

by Anjali Sareen Nowakowski

Ah, the infamous summer fling.

It's something we've all lusted after at one time or another. After all, what's better than a hot romance in the hot weather with a hot guy?

Unlike in the fall and winter - when it seems like everyone is pairing up (hello, cuffing season) just to have someone to snuggle with over the holidays - the summer months are all about getting out, living life, and exploring new options. A summer fling can help you figure out what you really want out of a long-term relationship in the future, and you can have a great time with your short-term hottie in the process.

Although some of us end up dating guys that are absolutely wrong for us through our summer flings, it doesn't always have to be that way.

A summer fling is the perfect opportunity to date a new type of guy you may never have considered before. To help you find your next best fling, here's a list of seven types of guys you should try dating this summer.

There's someone for everyone!

1. The Politico

With the election of Trump last November, not to mention the contentious fight between the two major parties, there's no doubt that we're living in highly politically-charged times.

Issues affecting millennial women are unfortunately at the forefront of many of these political battles. After all, things like health care, reproductive rights, and equal pay were all discussed during this election cycle.

If you're looking to have a fling this summer, why not try dating a political guy?

The Politico, as this worldly and knowledgeable guy has been dubbed, is often immersed in the world of domestic and international politics. The Politico will have a Facebook or Twitter feed full of articles from the New York Times, The Hill, and CNN.

Not only will you get to have a great summer fling with someone that cares about the world, you also may learn to see things from a new perspective in the process.

2. The Do-Gooder

The Do-Gooder spends his Saturday mornings at the soup kitchen and Sunday afternoons volunteering at The Humane Society.

He thinks about causes outside of himself. In fact, he spends much of his time trying to make the world a better place. Maybe you won't go on dates out clubbing until 4 AM or drink on a boat with his friends, but you'll probably end up seeing new parts of your city that you didn't know were there.

That could include places like parks that need painting or group homes where people are just looking for someone to talk to.

And maybe, you'll also discover something you would really like to get involved in yourself! Dating the Do-Gooder will not only open your eyes to the really good men in the world, but it may also inspire your own journey.

3. The Feminist

This guy believes in equal pay for equal work, the autonomy of women's bodies, and female access to care.

The Feminist will treat you like you matter - because you do and this guy realizes it. The Feminist will spend time asking you about your opinions and truly listen to what you have to say. He'll keep up-to-date on issues that impact women and talk to you about them.

Best of all, The Feminist will know that a woman can do anything and everything a man can do. If you've never dated a feminist, dating one this summer will open your eyes to what you've been missing.

It's (thankfully) not just women who feel strongly about feminism these days.

Dating a man who realizes that equality matters will make you see the dating world differently, too.

4. The Adventurer

Have you ever wanted to try Parkour... but been too scared you'll break something? Maybe skydiving seems like it would be right up your alley, but you haven't found a friend that was willing to go with.

This summer, try dating The Adventurer: The guy that's after new sights, sounds, experiences, and new thrills. This guy will make sure you'll never have a dull moment as long as you're together.

Everything you two do will overflowing with excitement!

The Adventurer will add an extra level of fun to your summer and you'll be exhausted, but happy, by the end of it.

5. The Athlete

If you think shopping is the only cardio you need in your life, you should probably consider dating The Athlete this summer.

This guy will not only teach you the ins and outs of all things sports-related, he'll also probably inspire you to get more physically active yourself. Join him for a run outside on a beautiful day or partner up for that fun volleyball recreational league you've always had your eye on.

The Athlete loves the human body and keeps up with being healthy all year-round. It's a win-win, really: You'll have your eyes opened to athletics you've never really delved into before and he'll probably be amazing in bed, too.

No one ever said sex couldn't count as cardio.

6. The Workaholic

The Workaholic might not be the best for trying to make a long-term relationship work, but there are still tons of great things you can learn from dating a guy that's super committed to his career in the short-term.

A work-life balance is great, but ruthlessly pursuing a career path that you're after is sometimes a necessity as a young adult.

This guy will understand the value of hard work and, while it's likely he'll bring that to his work life first and foremost, he may also bring that tenacity to a relationship with you.

The Workaholic will also show you what it's like to network and get things done like a boss. You may even pick up some tips for when you're ready to build your own professional career.

He'll probably bring you to professional events like business happy hours and charity galas.

Cross your finger that he's a boss in other aspects of life, too.

7. The Teacher

No, I'm not talking about a 5th grade math teacher... although you could date one of those, too.

Instead, look for a guy that's the polar opposite of you in every way - a guy that'll teach you something.

Are you a bookworm that can't stop stocking your Kindle? Try dating a guy that loves movies, so you can appreciate the visual aspect of storytelling along with the written. Are you an introvert that loves quiet, alone time?

Try dating a guy that will take you to a rave, where the EDM is thumping and the people, and music, are louder than life.

The Teacher will drag you so far outside of your comfort zone, it'll help to broaden your horizons indefinitely.

A summer fling doesn't have to be all fun and with no real reward.

Spending time with one of the guys from this list will not only guarantee you a good time, but also allow you to gain some new life experiences along the way.

What more could you ask for in one summer?
