Stephen Hawking Personally Congratulated Eddie Redmayne On Oscar Win

by Emily Arata

When a world-renowned physicist congratulates you, you've done well.

At last night's Academy Awards, 33-year-old Englishman Eddie Redmayne took home the Oscar for Best Actor.

He earned the accolade for his turn as Professor Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything," which delves into the disabled man's diagnosis and early professional years.

The actor told the gathered crowd,

This Oscar, this belongs to all of those people around the world battling ALS. It belongs to one exceptional family: Stephen, Jane and the Hawking children.

As Redmayne delivered his emotional "thank you" speech, Hawking posted his own note of gratitude on his official Facebook page.

Hawking wrote,

Congratulations to Eddie Redmayne for winning an ‪#‎Oscar‬ for playing me in The Theory of Everything Movie. Well done Eddie, I'm very proud of you. -SH

There's no more satisfying reward for an actor than recognition from his peers and his hero in the same evening.

Redmayne delivered a heartfelt speech upon receiving his first Oscar.
