'Tuesday' Rapper Makonnen Opens Up About The Time Drake Threatened To Jump Him

The 27-year-old rapper is most known for his catchy song "Tuesday." The success of his record caught Drake's ear back in 2014, which eventually led to him dropping an official remix to it.

Drizzy's co-sign helped spark Makonnen's meteoric rise to fame and even landed him a deal with the Toronto native's OVO Sound record label.

Unfortunately for the "Tuesday" rapper, things didn't work out with Drake the way he had hoped. OVO and Makonnen abruptly parted ways last year, but no one really knows why -- until now.

Makonnen, whose full name is Makonnen Sheran, recently sat down with Fader magazine to discuss the fallout. He even spoke about the time Drake allegedly threatened to "jump" him at a VMAs afterparty.

When asked about what happened at the party, the rapper revealed,

I was threatened by others. Someone I so-called look up to. Saying, 'We gon fuck you up the next time we see you.' And I was like, 'Let me stop being me.' I started to go back to, 'I'm just gonna go eat anything, and just be hiding myself and shit.' And then I was like, 'No! I'm not doing that no more! I don't give a fuck! I'm — me.' And that's what led me to coming out and shit.

Still, no one really knows why Drake and Makonnen don't get along despite Drake being the only reason we even know his name. Makonnen has an idea, though. He legitimately believes he was shunned by OVO because he lost weight.

The rapper once took to Snapchat seemingly hinting at his sour relationship with Drake and his crew, saying,

'Why'd you leave OVO?' Because I was underweight now. When I was overweight, they were fucking with me. That's what OVO stands for: 'Overweight Only.'

Makonnen went on to drop more details about the time Drake threatened him, explaining,

It was in the middle of the goddamn afterparty at the Up&Down club. Everybody that was in there was in there. I'm in here around these Vanguard Awards and I'm accepted and I took pictures with Chainsmokers and G-Eazy and everybody and we all friends. And I'm here in the middle of the floor, no security, and they coming and I just step to the side and they see me and stop and the biggest motherfucker in the game goes, woo woo woo, 'Next time I'ma fuck you up!'

The 29-year-old Atlanta-based rapper then said security guards asked him what he had done to Drake to warrant that kind of threat.

He says he didn't say anything.

All I did was smile. And I guess they took that as a threat. I was confused, like, 'It can't be little old me. I'm just a goddamned old record from way back when. What the fuck am I doing causing stresses and pains?'

So, what really caused Drake to allegedly threaten the dude known for "Tuesday?" It could have something to do with Makonnen's awkward freestyle on Tim Westwood's show.

Fans suspected Makonnen might've been taking shots at Drake throughout freestyle causing Drake to cut him off.

After a bit of research, something leads me to believe Drake sidelined Makonnen after a ton of old tweets resurfaced in which the "Tuesday" rapper dissed Drake numerous times.

Of course, he attempted to clear things up, but it might've been too late.

It seems like we'll never know exactly why Drake has so much hostility toward the guy he practically made famous with his bare hands. However, if it has to do with those old tweets, I suggest Drake just get over it.

I mean, you can't call Meek Mill "Twitter fingers" and then get mad about old tweets. Just patch things up and make "Wednesday" already, damn.
