Word is in and it looks like the upcoming sixth season of Jersey Shore will be its last. Those who’ve enjoyed the partying antics of a group of super-tanned Jersey-dwelling friends have one more season to enjoy them, after which you may have to take a trip to Seaside to get your fix of the Shore.

MTV made the official announcement today, stating that Season 6 will be the last for Jersey Shore. The reality series, follows a group of self-proclaimed “guidos/guidettes” as they summer together in a house near the beach in Seaside, New Jersey. The series has also featured (most of) the same cast living together in Miami and on vacation in Italy.

While I’m sure fans of the series are disappointed to know the show is ending, it’s not all that surprising that the series is coming to a close. It still draws strong ratings for MTV, but the numbers have started to slip. And it’s entirely possible that the cast is ready to move on to other opportunities. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi just had a baby (she’ll be seen pregnant in Season 6).

Maybe it’s just time to move on for all of them. Farewell Snooki and JWoww and Situation. Farewell phrases like “DTF” and “GTL” and “grenade.” Farewell drunken shenanigans and fighting caught on video. While Jersey Shore may soon be gone, it will not be forgotten, and something tells me it won’t be long before another guilty-pleasure reality show takes its place.

So, while the end is near, there’s still one more season for the series. Here’s what MTV has in store for Jersey Shore fans ahead of the Season 6 premiere, which is set for Thursday, October 4 at 10:00 p.m. ET.

MTV will kick-off a season’s worth of celebratory “Jersey Shore” farewell programming beginning Thursday, September 6, leading up to the night’s “2012 MTV Video Music Awards ”at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, that includes:

▪ MTV will  reward fans with an EXCLUSIVE, FIRST LOOK AT FOOTAGE FROM THE FINAL SEASON in the one-hour retrospective special, “Gym, Tan, Look Back, ”premiering at 6:00 p.m. ET/PT.   The special also features cast interviews in which they reminisce about quintessential water-cooler moments from the show, share their personal feelings on the last six seasons, and give their perspective on the series that turned them into household names.

▪ Then at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT, members of the “Jersey Shore” cast gathers for theirFIRST INTERVIEWS post-announcement to discuss the final season LIVE from the“2012 MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show” red carpet.

▪ The full-day celebration kick-off  at 11 a.m. ET/PT with an “awards-themed”marathon of “Jersey Shore” episodes, which will feature some of the most iconic moments in the series’ history worthy of an award, including “Best Bromance,” among others.

New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Course Puts Your English Lit Degree To Shame

The University of Virginia offered a summer course on “Game of Thrones.” That’s right. Students at the university learned all about the intricacies of fighting White Walkers and raising dragons. Lisa Woolfork, an associate professor of English, taught the discussion-based class. The course was split between the first book in George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of […]

A Capella Group Absolutely Crushes The Ultimate Disney Medley (Video)

I’m a total dork when it comes to really impressive singers. One night, while watching my college’s performance of “Spring Awakening,” I hysterically cried during several goosebump-inducing harmonies and solos. It was really embarrassing, mainly because it was in front of my new-ish boyfriend and all of his friends, who easily judged me for the […]

Indulge As Goats Gloriously Sing The ‘Jurassic Park’ Theme Song (Video)

If there’s one thing I can’t get enough of, it’s normal animals mashed up with “Jurassic Park” (so essentially “Park”). I couldn’t get enough of the video featuring a bulldog instead of a brontosaurus, and this clip is no exception. Everyone loves goats and everyone loves “Jurassic Park” — it’s only natural that the two […]
