Actor and activist Matt Damon has just announced that he is going on a “toilet strike.” He claims that he will not use the toilet for peepee or kaka in order to raise awareness of the 2.5 billion people around the world who do not have any access to clean water and sanitation.

All this was announced during a faux press conference that can be watched in the form of a three minute YouTube video released today by the nonprofit that he cofounded, Water.org.

“In protest of this global tragedy, until this issue is resolved, until everybody has access to clean water and sanitation, I will not go to the bathroom,” he stated.

“Does anybody have any idea what invention has saved more lives than any other in the history of humankind? The toilet,” Damon says answering his own question. “More people have cell phones than toilets.”

The goal of this hilarious video is the hope of it going viral and starting an online conversation.

The hope is that with enough people understanding how difficult finding clean water is, we can raise awareness enough to provide each and every person with clean water and sanitation.
