Obama Says He ‘Made Sure That Jay-Z Is Helping Beyonce Out ‘ With New Baby
Amidst the frenetic schedule of the presidential campaign, President Barack Obama has revealed his key role in giving first-time dad Jay-Z advice on child rearing.
The President, who sat down for an interview with Cleveland radio station Z107.9 on Friday, considers Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce ‘good friends’ and revealed what the first couple and the Carters talk about when they spend time together.
Obama characterized them as ‘down to earth folks,’ and he makes sure the rapper is doing his fair share to help his wife with their new baby.
‘I’ve gotten to know these guys over the first several years,’ the president told radio host Colby Colb about the singing pair, describing how they first joined forces for Obama’s presidential bid in 2008.
‘Beyonce sang at our inauguration and Jay-Z did a lot of ‘Get Out The Vote’ concerts,’ he continued.
‘They’re good people. They’re unbelievably successful but they really are down to earth folks. Beyonce could not be sweeter to Michelle and the girls, who are big Beyonce fans. They’re good friends. We talk about the same things I talk about with all my friends.’
‘We talk about kids, they just had a new baby, they have a new daughter. I made sure that Jay-Z was helping Beyonce out and not leaving it all with Beyonce and the mother-in-law.’
Along with their friendship , Mr Obama also revealed how Jay-Z’s music serves as a major morale boost to the candidate on the campaign trail.
‘During campaign time, I try to keep it upbeat. I’ve got a bunch of Jay-Z songs on my iPod,’ saying that Jay-Z’s tune ‘My First Song,’ is one of his favorites at the moment.
‘It just keeps me steady. It reminds you that you always have to stay hungry,’ he added.
Jay-Z has been a long time Obama supporter, since becoming acquainted with the Democratic politician in 2008.
Looking dapper in a dark suit and tie, Jay-Z appeared in the ad praising Obama.
‘When the president got in office initially, what he represented to a nation of kids was hope, the hope of a nation who could look and see themselves and know the possibilities,’ he said in the nearly two minute video.
‘For so long there was a voice that was silenced out there, as far as exercising your right to vote. I think it was silent because people had lost hope.’
‘They didn’t think their voice mattered or counted. We thought it was just politics, people going back and forth. At the end of the day it didn’t trickle down to where we live… Now people are exercising their right and you’re staring to see the power of our vote. It means something for the first time for a lot of people, having someone in office who understands how powerful our voice can be.’
While Beyonce and Jay-Z have are ardent admirers of the Obamas – the first couple have equally been public about their admiration for the stars.
Mrs Obama even told People magazine in May, ‘If I had some gift, I’d be Beyonce. I’d be some great singer. The power of music, being able to play an instrument. It looks like musicians just have the most fun.’
