Being that he is a family man with three children and a stepdaughter, Matt Damon was understandably nervous about taking part in numerous nude scenes for his TV movie Behind the Candelabra.

Damon admitted he is regularly seen in the buff in the forthcoming HBO film about the relationship between his character Scott Thorson and entertainer Liberace, played by Michael Douglas

‘Normally I’d say no to nudity, but I just did a lot of it playing the long-term partner of Liberace,’ Damon stated in an interview with Playboy magazine. ‘I mean, it’s tastefully done. But this movie’s not going to be for everyone.’

The actor also discussed his love scenes with Douglas, and even went as far as complimenting his kissing technique.

‘Michael was a wonderful kisser,’ he laughs. ‘My concerns ended up mattering a lot less once we were filming. The dynamic between the men was complex and interesting.

‘Liberace was very powerful and adored, a great showman making $50,000 a week doing his act in Vegas. Scott was much younger and grew up in foster homes, so there was a lot to play.’

In fact, Matt describes how the two actors thought hard about how to act out their scenes of passion.

‘We both have a lot of gay friends, and we were not going to screw this up,’ says the actor. ‘It wasn’t the most natural thing in the world to do, though. Like, for one scene, I had to come out of a pool, go over to Michael, straddle him on a chaise lounge and start kissing him.

‘And throughout the script, it’s not like I kiss him just once. We drew it up like a football plan.’

The HBO film, which will air next year, is based on Thorson’s autobiographical book Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace and was filmed over the summer.

Singularity At The Cinema: ‘Transcendence,’ ‘Her’ And Fighting Against The Future

“Transcendence” isn’t a very good movie. It has the setup to be a thought-provoking, sci-fi, action flick, without any real action or thought of which to speak. It’s essentially the last 20 minutes of “Her,” spread glacially over a two-hour-and-twenty-minute run time. The biggest problem with “Transcendence,” however, is that it foregrounds and obsesses over its technology at the […]

This French short film beautifully illustrates what happens when something that seems untouchable is exposed as a burdening vulnerability, one that can severe all that holds humanity together. “Lost Memories” is not just about a guy ignoring his girlfriend for the Internet. It’s a question of just how powerful digital media really is. Is it […]

Why You Should Stop Trying To Fake Confidence

“I guess I just want to feel more confident.” I hear this a lot from my patients. I usually ask, “More confident to do what?” It could be anything: Confident to start dating again. Confident to push back against an abusive boss. Confident to get out of a dead-end relationship. Confident to tell their friends […]

The Fine Line Between Being Passionate And Being Crazy

I’m not entirely sure if I’m the best person to be writing on the topic seeing as how I’m not completely convinced of my sanity. But then again that may very well make me the best candidate for the job. The difference between being passionate and being crazy is often hazy at best. The most […]

5 Reasons Why You Should Keep Your Friends Close And Your Enemies Far, Far Away

Despite my fair share of angry rants, there is really only one type of vile person I hate in this world: disingenuous, calculating pieces of garbage. The type of person who doesn’t have good intentions and shows no remorse after (most often deliberately) undermining you. This is true evil and I want nothing to do with […]
