Being that he is a family man with three children and a stepdaughter, Matt Damon was understandably nervous about taking part in numerous nude scenes for his TV movie Behind the Candelabra.

Damon admitted he is regularly seen in the buff in the forthcoming HBO film about the relationship between his character Scott Thorson and entertainer Liberace, played by Michael Douglas

‘Normally I’d say no to nudity, but I just did a lot of it playing the long-term partner of Liberace,’ Damon stated in an interview with Playboy magazine. ‘I mean, it’s tastefully done. But this movie’s not going to be for everyone.’

The actor also discussed his love scenes with Douglas, and even went as far as complimenting his kissing technique.

‘Michael was a wonderful kisser,’ he laughs. ‘My concerns ended up mattering a lot less once we were filming. The dynamic between the men was complex and interesting.

‘Liberace was very powerful and adored, a great showman making $50,000 a week doing his act in Vegas. Scott was much younger and grew up in foster homes, so there was a lot to play.’

In fact, Matt describes how the two actors thought hard about how to act out their scenes of passion.

‘We both have a lot of gay friends, and we were not going to screw this up,’ says the actor. ‘It wasn’t the most natural thing in the world to do, though. Like, for one scene, I had to come out of a pool, go over to Michael, straddle him on a chaise lounge and start kissing him.

‘And throughout the script, it’s not like I kiss him just once. We drew it up like a football plan.’

The HBO film, which will air next year, is based on Thorson’s autobiographical book Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace and was filmed over the summer.
