As if Seth MacFarlane’s stock couldn’t get any higher, Deadline has just broken the news that the Family Guy creator will host the upcoming Oscars on ABC.

After the success of Ted, and his recent hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, it appears as if the Academy feels that he’s ready to take that next step in show biz.

MacFarlane is an inspired choice because he can bring in a younger demographic – which Billy Crystal couldn’t do last year – and he can also perform musical numbers, impersonations, and a bit of stand-up comedy to inject some life into the aging awards show.

We’ll see how he does when the 85th Annual Academy Awards airs on February 24, 2013.
