It looks like Simon Cowell is going to make Demi Lovato sing for her supper. The X Factor boss has refused to confirm whether he will be recruiting the 20-year-old singer as a judge for the next season of the singing contest – while branding her mean-spirited and ‘bitchy’ at the same time.

Cowell and Lovato have been seen quarreling week-after-week and on Thursday night at a screening party he even accused her of dirty tactics.

In an apparent attempt to keep Demi on her toes, Cowell told People.com after Thursday’s show: ‘It’s that time of year [when] you’re always going to get asked that question, and I’m not going to answer it.’

Simon – who has two acts left in the contest – described Demi as fun, but said things had got a ‘bitchy and unpleasant’ in relation to her critique of his acts, Emblem3, Fifth Harmony.

Cowell suggested Lovato had been giving out bad advice to his contestants in a bid to save her own. Last night saw Demi’s only remaining act, Cee Cee Frey, go crashing out of the competition.

‘It did get a bit bitchy and unpleasant,’ Cowell said of their recent on-air spats, adding: ‘I’ve got to look after my artists. Luckily, they didn’t listen to her.’

He went on: ‘She’s fun… she really, really is a tough little thing. I know she plays the ‘I’ve been bullied’ [card] – trust me, this one gives as good as she gets.’

Thursday night also saw Britney Spears’s act Diamond White, 13, axed in a double elimination.

Now just four acts remain and will compete in next week’s semi final.

Simon leads the way with his two bands, while Britney still has Carly Rose Sonenclar, 13, and LA Reid has Tate Stevens, 37.
