He has fought aliens before, but now Will Smith and his son Jaden are the aliens fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic Earth. In a trailer for film After Earth, released on Monday, the Smiths team up once again to play onscreen father and son.

The flick – set more than a thousand years in the future – is the brainchild of supernatural film director M. Night Shyamalan.

After his disastrous previous film, The Last Airbender, M. Night is banking on the father and son’s chemistry to make After Earth a hit.

This is, of course, not the first time Will and Jaden have played on screen father and son.

In 2006, an eight-year-old Jaden made his acting debut opposite Will in Pursuit of Happyness and, in doing so, helped his father towards an Oscar nomination.

Now all grown up, 14-year-old Jaden – who plays Kitai Raige – is his father’s only hope after they crash land on the long abandoned earth and Will’s character Cypher Raige is injured.

According to the film’s official synopsis this is Kitai’s chance to shine against his iconic general father. And, the film is also likely to be Jaden’s time to define himself against his father in the acting world.

‘As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon,’ the official synopsis says.

‘His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.’

20 Things ‘Gilmore Girls’ Taught Me About Being In My 20s

Before I graduated from high school, drastically cut my bangs or even began to obsess over Mindy Kaling, I lived in a world where small-town charm was “the thing” and “Gilmore Girls” was my life. Netflix announced that it will begin streaming all seven seasons of “Gilmore Girls” starting today, so, of course, October 1 […]

5 Reasons To Give ABC’s ‘Black-ish’ A Chance

For the better part of this year, I’ve been impatiently looking forward to many new shows on ABC, especially “Black-ish.” The show is a Kenya-Barris-created sitcom about a black family in suburban America, figuring out its cultural identity. “Black-ish” premiered last Wednesday night, and it was everything I hoped it would be. It was fun, […]

Liam Neeson Is Back For Even More Revenge In The ‘Taken 3′ Trailer

Liam Neeson has a particular set of skills, and he’s going to keep on using them until we stop giving him our money. But until that time comes, we’ll continue to have new installments of the “Taken” franchise. Thus, we now have the first trailer for “Taken 3.” It’s really called “Tak3n,” but that’s stupid, […]

Fall Fashion: 10 Ways To Kill It On Instagram In Style This Season

As a former Floridian, fall is sort of a confusing time for me. Sure, I love pumpkin-flavored anything as much as the next girl, but layering and such is not something you learn growing up, where the thermometer never dips below 55. As a fashion blogger who has a healthy appetite for modern trends, however, if […]

The Information Age: Why A Degree In Journalism Is Still Useful

Without fail, every time I attend one of my journalism classes in college, I am sure to leave the classroom having written down absolutely nothing at all in my notebook. Yet, I always walk out with the confidence that I have learned something new, something valuable. How can that be possible? The world of journalism may […]
