This Detail About Misty On 'The Defenders' Could Be Setting Up A Huge Crossover

Netflix

There's nothing comic book fans love more than a good crossover, and The Defenders finale might just be setting up a bridge between the big-screen Marvel Cinematic Universe — consisting of the Avengers — and the small-screen on — the Defenders. That's right; we might finally be seeing an Avenger pop up in the Netflix shows, or a Defender make their big-screen debut. And it all comes down to one detail about Misty Knight in The Defenders finale. Spoiler alert: Obviously, don't read on if you don't want parts of The Defenders final episode spoiled for you. In a climactic fight scene, Misty Knight gets one of her arms chopped off, but this isn't news to comic-readers. Misty Knight has one arm in Marvel comics, and the situation that follows her amputation leads to a major team-up with the Avengers.

Misty Knight is a police officer who worked closely with Luke Cage in his pre-Defenders standalone series. In the new show, Misty spends most of her time trying to figure out what the hell is going on, since Luke and his other super-friends won't tell her about The Hand and its evil plan. In the end, she rushes into The Hand's headquarters just in time to save Claire Temple from being killed by Bakuto, but unfortunately that comes at the cost of her right arm, as the master swordsman slices it off instead of Claire's head. When we last see Misty, she's recovering in the hospital, but no longer has a right arm.

So why should this be an exciting development for Marvel fans? Well, it could actually mean we'll be seeing none other than Iron Man himself, Tony Stark, meeting Misty Knight on either Netflix or the big screen. In the comics, Misty Knight gets a bionic arm after her amputation, which gives her some superpowers of her own (super strength, magnetism, and technopathy). And she gets that robo-arm from Tony Stark.

Misty Knight is next set to appear in Season 2 of Luke Cage, coming sometime in 2018. In the comics, she gets her bionic arm from Tony Stark pretty quickly after losing her arm, so we might be seeing a superpowered Misty in this new season. As for an actual appearance by Robert Downey Jr. as Stark, that may be a bit more difficult. Given that Downey is reportedly the highest-paid Marvel actorLuke Cage might not be able to fit a cameo in the budget — Misty might just get a box from Stark Industries instead. But hey, you never know!
