Spike Lee Refuses To See ‘Django Unchained’ Due To Its Depiction Of Slavery
Regardless of how you look at it, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained was bound to create a ton of controversy. The film takes the serious nature of the slave era and blends it with over-the–top violence and humor to make for a pretty outrageous spaghetti western.
Tarantino has always had the ability to make light of any sensitive subject matter – like in Inglourious Basterds – but this time he has received some negative feedback from famed filmmaker Spike Lee, who revealed in an interview with Vibe that he will not be seeing Tarantino’s latest.
When asked about his thoughts on the movie, Lee responded:
“I cant speak on it ’cause I’m not gonna see it. All I’m going to say is that it’s disrespectful to my ancestors. That’s just me…I’m not speaking on behalf of anybody else.”
Then yesterday on his Twitter, Lee elaborated on his stance with this tweet:
Let us know if you think Tarantino is being disrespectful with his take on slavery in Django Unchained!
