The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey took full advantage of what will likely be its final weekend on top of the box office charts by raking in an additional $36.7 million from Friday through Sunday, according to Box Office Mojo.

The Hobbit has now earned a total of $149.8 million in the U.S. so far, as well as an additional $300+ million overseas.

Despite these numbers, the film managed to drop a staggering 73% on its second Friday, with an overall 57% drop for the entire weekend.

The Hobbit’s 10-day box office take is now significantly lower than that of both The Two Towers and Return of the King!

It will be interesting to see if The Hobbit can bounce back as Les Misérables and Django breathe down its neck starting on Tuesday!

How ‘Zoolander’ Influenced Comedy With Its ‘Man-Child-Turned-Man’ Blueprint

The recent rumors around a possible sequel to Ben Stiller’s 2001 male model comedy, “Zoolander,” provide an apt opportunity to reflect on just how much the film helped to shape the direction Hollywood comedies would come to take.
