Who Sings 'Time Of My Life' In ABC's 'Dirty Dancing' Remake?

Great American Films

ABC's new Dirty Dancing remake is trying to give viewers the time of their lives again, but who do we owe it all to?

There's no doubt Baby and Johnny's dance number to "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" at the end of Dirty Dancing is the most iconic moment of the classic 1987 flick. It's the lift that launched a thousand recreations and created a pop culture touchstone.

So obviously, all eyes are on ABC to get that scene right in their remake.

The original "Time of My Life" was performed by soul artist Bill Medley and country pop artist Jennifer Warnes the same year Dirty Dancing came out, and it was selected to be the final song in the movie.

The final scene sees Baby and Johnny dancing in front of all of Kellerman's Resort as the summer comes to an end, and eventually, everyone else joins in on the fun.

Though Johnny lip syncs part of the song, it's clearly Bill Medley's voice and not Patrick Swayze's. Rather than rely on outside artists this time around, ABC got the whole cast of its 2017 Dirty Dancing to get involved in the movie's big number. The result is much more of an ensemble piece than in the original movie.

Throughout the new movie, the cast actually performs their own musical numbers and culminates the show with "Time of My Life," which features nearly all of the main cast singing parts of the award-winning song. Of course, it starts with Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes singing the first verse and chorus as Baby and Johnny, then enter Nicole Scherzinger as Penny, Bruce Greenwood as Mr. Houseman, and the rest of the cast with their own solos.

The whole thing has a feel of Hairspray's big finale number "You Can't Stop the Beat," which also features all the members of the main cast coming forward with solos.

It works more with this updated version of Dirty Dancing since the side characters actually have real stories in this new version. Baby's parents have rekindled their romance after talks of divorce rather than just sitting around in the original, and Lisa has actually found a love interest in Marco rather than ending her story after discovering Robbie is a creep like in the '87 film.
