‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7 Just Had Its First Gruesome Deaths: Here’s Who’s Gone

This post contains spoilers from Game Of Thrones Season 7, Episode 2.

One of the more amazing things about Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 1: the lack of deaths. I mean, yes, Arya killed off a whole lot of Nameless Freys, and The Hound buried a couple of bodies. But in terms of high profile deaths, Season 7 is off to a slow start, considering how people died by the cartful in Season 6.

That changed this week, when producers decided to wow us with the biggest naval battle they've ever attempted to stage. While this isn't technically the first battle on water (The Battle of the Blackwater Bay holds that title), and since most of the boats were blown to smithereens in the first few minutes by wildfire, most of the battle was saw was actually on the shoreline.

Need more proof this is the biggest naval battle they've ever staged? Up until this year, the show has never needed more than one full-sized boat to film on.

But enough about the battle. Who died?

Ironically, the first two major names to drop this season are ones the show was probably eager to get rid of: Sand Snakes. We all know how badly Dorne went in Season 5, and how the show basically killed off all the men at the beginning of Season 6 in order to stick a pin, or a handy spear, in that storyline until the end of the season.

Now that we've got Dany with tons of allies around her, it's time to start peeling some of that strength away, which Euron did happily this evening by conquering his niece and nephew, Yara and Theon, and their fleet as they headed back to Dorne with the Sand Snakes.

But though Euron's aim was more to kill his family, or at least take them as prisoners to hand off to Cersei, he was less than successful. Theon escaped by landing in the drink, a move that sure to lower him in the eyes of the remaining Ironborn. Instead, the show decided this was a useful moment to remove the Sand Snakes they liked least, or had the least impact on the show so far: Obara and Nymeria.

Irony? He kills them both *with their own choice of weapon.* Euron does Obara in with a spear....

...and Nymeria chokes to death with her own whip.

An inglorious end to inglorious characters. Sorry, Dorne.
