'Game of Thrones' Season 7, Episode 4 Will Be The Shortest Episode Ever, So Enjoy Every Minute

Just in case it wasn't enough that HBO is giving us the shortest Game of Thrones season, it's also giving us the shortest Game of Thrones episode ever, within that season. Yep, this Sunday's Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 4, "The Spoils of War," clocks in at only 50 minutes, the shortest episode in the show's entire run so far.

What's up with Game of Thrones shorting us on content this season?! It may be of some comfort to fans to know that Season 7 will also contain the show's longest ever episode, as showrunner David Benioff revealed in June. Benioff told Entertainment Weekly,

One will be our longest episode ever — it's coming in around 90 minutes. Another is going to be our shortest episode at 50 minutes.

Previously the longest episode was Season 6 finale at 69 minutes, and there have been several episodes tied for the title of shortest at the 51-minute mark. Since the interview with Benioff, the runtimes of each Season 7 episode have been released, revealing the longest episode as the season finale, coming in at 81 minutes, not 90 minutes. Perhaps they did some last minute editing.

Still, 81 minutes is pretty darn long for an episode of television. So, OK, I guess a feature-film length episode of Game of Thrones makes up for a 50-minute episode. And don't worry — next week's Episode 5 will be back up to 59 minutes, followed by a 71-minute long Episode 7.

However, Season 7 still is the shortest Game of Thrones season yet. The total episode count is only seven, compared to the ten-episode runs of Seasons 1 through 6.

Maybe a short Game of Thrones episode won't be so bad. Maybe everyone will put down their swords and have a good ol' fashioned gab sesh in one of the castles. I for one am dying to see a Game of Thrones bottle episode (preferably with no torture scenes, please and thank you).
