Jaime From 'Game Of Thrones' Reveals If He Thinks His Character Will Kill Cersei

HBO

Could Jaime and Cersei Lannister's relationship turn from love to hate?

That's what a lot of "Game of Thrones" fans are theorizing, and now the actor who plays Jaime, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, is weighing in on the popular Season 7 theory.

A popular fan theory states Jamie will kill his sister/lover Cersei in the upcoming seventh season. The bulk of the weight behind the theory is a prophecy given to Cersei by the fortune teller Maggy the Frog in the books.

The prophecy scene was shown in the Season 5 premiere, but the HBO series cut off Maggy's prophecy before a pivotal line:

The Valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.

"Valonqar" is Valyrian for "little brother." So initially, fans assumed it meant Tyrion would be the one to end Cersei's life. But as the new season approaches, most fans are turning their eyes toward Jaime as the queen-slayer. Although he and Cersei are twins, he was technically born after she was.

The Jamie-kills-Cersei theory was fueled even more when HBO released its first batch of stills from Season 7, one of which shows Jaime looking a bit depressed standing beside his sister with a new sword in his hilt.

Eagle-eyed fans noted the new sword looks a lot like Widow's Wail, Joffrey's blade we haven't seen since his death in Season 4.

Putting all of that info together, the popular notion online right now is Jaime will kill Cersei this season. And guess what — Nikolaj Coster-Waldau says that theory "absolutely makes sense."

Nikolaj told Harper's Bazaar he totally buys the theory, even though he thinks it might be "too neat."

I heard that theory, and it absolutely makes sense. It would be a perfect little nod. But who knows? You'll have to watch the show. It's a good theory. I always thought maybe it's too neat, but who knows.

I don't know, guys — I think Nikolaj is just trying to throw us off with that last line. The theory makes so much sense to me, so I'm pretty much convinced we're going to see a bloody end to Cersei and Jaime's twincest when "Game of Thrones" returns on July 16.
