According to executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, Ryan Seacrest plays such a significant role on “American Idol,” that without him theshow would struggle to survive!

TMZ spotted Nigel out in L.A. and asked if Seacrest was considered dispensable –to which Nigel replied:

“Ryan Seacrest drives the entire program. He’s not on an earpiece or anything. He’s not beholden to anybody. He controls the show. He’s really important.”

He added, “It would be very, very difficult to replace Ryan Seacrest.”

Nigel strongly believes “American Idol” exceeds any one individual — saying:

“I’ve never believed that Idol as a franchise is beholden to any individual because everybody said it would die the minute Simon Cowell left, and it hasn’t.”

Let us know what you think about Nigel’s statement in the comment section below!

5 Reasons To Give ABC’s ‘Black-ish’ A Chance
