Roger Budney

Roger Budney, was born on February 23rd, 1945 in Camden, New Jersey. Reared in an artistic environment, he displayed skill in drawing and painting at an early age.

The family moved to Regensburg, Germany in 1954, and his parents encouraged him to draw and paint the surrounding landscape. The uniqueness of the scenery in Europe has been a major influence in his painting style since that time.

In 1957 the family moved to California. Roger graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in studio painting. Upon graduation he embarked on a grand tour of the world, visiting forty-five countries, sketching and painting.

Upon returning to the United States, he worked for several years in a sculpture studio in New Jersey. Wanting to live in an area of natural scenic beauty, he returned to California, where he met and married his English wife, Barbara, who encouraged him to continue painting.

He currently resides on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula where he paints the local landscape or coastal scenes down through Big Sur. Often he will travel to Europe to find new subject matter for his European scenes which he enjoys painting.

Although he has worked in various media, he now prefers working in oil in the style of the 19th century European masters and the American Hudson River School artists. Realizing that light is a crucial element in this style of painting, his work reveals an understanding and ability to use it with a subtle luminosity. At times a work will require precise detail of which Roger is a master, however, this often involves extra time to create the desired effect and hours are spent on just a small portion of the canvas. His work breathes life and a distinctive mood is noticeable in his paintings.

Rogers work is exhibited in Museums throughout the country in appreciation of his work. He is also in “Who’s Who” as a recognized American artist. He is also a member of the “Oil Painters Of America and “American Society Of Marine Artists”

Roger has a large following of well-known art collectors throughout the world. His work is prized by those who appreciate traditional fine art. As he continues with His new works, Roger concentrates on visual beauty that is subtle, serene and draws the viewer into a different world, where time and space are how they used to be, where we have time to think and ponder and count our blessings.
