6 Reasons You Shouldn't Feel Guilty About Eating Chocolate Every Day

by Kelsey Wynne

I don't think I'm alone in saying chocolate is a consistent pleasure in life.

I'm not a huge chocolate fan, but I am a huge chocolate drink fan. I was reading a forum recently, and in one of the posts a commenter mentioned that it was "gross" to drink hot chocolate every day.

I read this and immediately grew defensive of my ritual. Even though I don't drink hot chocolate every day, it's my fall drink of choice (after hot apple cider).

It's getting colder and warm drinks wrap you up like a sweater or a boyfriend.  The only difference is that it won't cling to you once you're done with it. (I'm kidding, of course, sweaters are great.)

I've never had anyone (besides said internet commenter) say anything about drinking hot chocolate so much, but I'm sure those crazy people are out there.

There are many reasons why you shouldn't feel guilty about eating chocolate every day and here is a list of the top six:

1. You deserve it.

Have you ever bought yourself a box of chocolate as a good job gift to yourself? If not you should consider it, because you deserve it.

Buying yourself a gift of chocolate is the perfect way to celebrate yourself. I'm serious. Be proud of your accomplishments. Eat chocolate because you did that great thing today. Always remember that chocolate cares.

2. It's good for you!

Well, technically only dark chocolate with low amounts of sugar and 70 to 85 percent of cocoa is good for you. So eat a small amount of dark chocolate every day, your heart will thank you.

Dark chocolate has stimulants that work like caffeine but are less likely to keep you awake all night.  It's also known to help with concentration, constipation and it can even reduce the risk of a heart attack.

3. It can improve your sex drive.

Chocolate is known to lead to a more active libido amongst women, and can lead to higher levels of sexual satisfaction.

 4. Chocolate has endorphins.

To quote Elle Woods, "Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't kill their husbands. They just don't."  So basically, if you're having a particularly hostile day, eat some chocolate. Do your part in keeping more people alive today.

5. It's your body so do what you will with it.

I personally need to do some form of exercise after eating sweets or I feel gross, but I know a lot of people who don't. Any way you decide to handle chocolate is OK because it's your decision and we still have the right to make those (Yay, America).

You can eat as much chocolate as you want, and no one gets to make you feel bad about that (unless you let them). Your body is your temple. Just be cautious, you make the bed you lie in.

6. Chocolate lowers stress.

This makes it easier for other people to be around you. When you're having a stressful day it's OK to indulge (remember, endorphins).  People everywhere should consider thanking you for your sacrifices to mankind.  I mean, it isn't always easy eating chocolate.

If you spend your life not doing something that makes you happy every day then what are you living for?  If eating chocolate is that one thing, then never let anyone stop you. (Unless, of course, you medically have to.)

Chocolate isn't the worst thing you could be putting into your body. When eaten in moderation it's not terrible for you, and if it makes you happy who the hell cares what anyone else thinks?

So happy chocolate eating friends, family and strangers who I hope will listen to my message.
