TOY, The Meat Packing District’s New Hotspot

Elite Daily had the chance to visit TOY and experience a culinary journey that would certainly please even the most discerning palates. TOY, the latest restaurant venture from Dual Groupe’s Derek and Daniel Koch and Michael Wainstein, opened on June 25 of this year.

Located under the Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel, the restaurant serves a menu of modern Chinese infused with Japanese influences. The plates were created by TOY’s executive chef, Doron Wong, of China Grill Management.

The Koch brothers are widely known for the Day & Night events that took the brunch scene by storm. Formerly held at The Oak Room, but more recently held at Anja Bar and locations in the Hamptons, the Day & Night events provided a level of service and luxury that few restaurants and nightclubs could compare.

So it’s no surprise that their newest venture into the culinary world combines the same high level of service that they’re known for along with a fresh, playful take – all of this located just off of Gansevoort street, the intersection of dining, entertainment and nightlife.

TOY is comprised of an al fresco terrace and a bi-level interior dining room, along with a private room overlooking the bar dining lounge. Along with an exceptional and inventive cuisine, the venue makes for an indelible experience.

Outside, the al fresco terrace borrows inspiration from the chic, casual luxury of the French Riviera, with plush details and flexible seating. Additionally, the adjacent café, Toy Oyster & Sushi Bar, offers more casual indoor and outdoor sidewalk dining options.

TOY’s salivating menu features a crisp rendition of traditional Asian courses fused with an intriguing Japanese twist. Shrimp ‘Toast’ Cigars with Golden Mustard Plum Sauce; Hidden Lobster Dumplings with Shiitake Mushrooms and Coral Sauce; a Long Bone Short Rib with Szechuan Black Pepper Sauce and Wokked Chinese Long Beans and Toy’s Signature Lacquered Mahogany Chicken – the list could go on, but we would only grow hungrier with each additional detail.
