Elite Interviews Zulay Henao
Zulay Henao has one of the best personalities we have come across. Having starred in several feature films, such as Fighting, Hostel III and Feel The Noise, she is fast becoming a big name is Hollywood. Having emigrated from Colombia at the age of 4, Zulay has grown into a beautiful woman.
She joined the army out of high school to pay for her college tuition; but it was there that she developed her passion to find a career of her own where she would be able to display her individuality. Zulay found that career in acting.
We here at Elite Daily had the chance to catch up with Zulay, and ask her some questions.
So you were born in Colombia, how was the experience of immigrating to the United States?
Yes I was born in beautiful Medellin, Colombia! If you haven’t been, I suggest you put it on your to-do-list ASAP! My parents moved to the U.S. when I was 4 years old, so for me this is home.
They worked very hard and struggled like every other immigrant family, and they overcame huge obstacles – like language barriers and getting to a new country at their age. I applaud them for their fearlessness and tenacity.
At what point did you decide to join the Army?
I joined the Army after high School for the college tuition, and honestly just to kind of get away, travel and experience life on my own for a little bit. The experience was amazing, eye-opening, lonely, motivating and beautiful all at the same time.
It turns out that the very thing I kind of disliked about the Army was the very thing that propelled me to pursue acting fearlessly! The Army requires that you live a certain lifestyle and that everyone work together for one common goal; it is necessary for the mission!
But I wanted more! I wanted individuality and my own vision to come to fruition. I wanted to perform! It was that realization early on in my enlistment that brought me through and fueled my passion for acting. After the army, I went to New York and enrolled in acting school.
Tell us about your first big break: what did it feel like “making it”?
My first big break was to play lead actress opposite of Omarion in the Jennifer Lopez and Sony Pictures production of Feel the Noise! I found myself going from auditioning ceaselessly in New York City to being in front of the camera with a beautiful Puerto Rico as the setting.
I will never forget that experience: my mom and I got a late night call and literally I was at JFK the next day going to shoot my first movie! Exhilirating! Hard work pays off!
If you could star in your favorite movie, what would it be?
I have so many favorite movies! This one is hard, I am to complex for a favorite anything. My favorite colors are blue and green. BUT, if I have to say one movie right now, I would say I would want to star in The Notebook.
Everyone knows you are a rising star and your bigger roles are starting to show it, any future plans for you career we don’t know about?
I like to stay grounded and to continue growing and developing as an actress. I have so much respect and admiration for this art, and my desire is to truly live the life of my characters as honestly and as beautifully as I can.
I know there are some interesting by-products because of what I do, but what girl doesn’t like a little extra attention? God Bless you guys, and thank you for supporting me!
We know you are a beautiful actress, what is the worst pick-up line you have ever heard?
Oh wow – worst pick up line. I can’t think of one. But, I love a clever Man;)
