Wynn Las Vegas Unveils The $33.6M Tulips Sculpture By Jeff Koons
The sculpture will be on display at the Wynn hotel in Las Vegas. It has been placed in front of the Wynn Theatre Rotunda, located near the showroom. The sculpture is the final piece in Koons’s five piece “Celebration” series; it is the largest and perhaps the most complex in the entire collection.
The sculpture mimics a bouquet of twisted balloon flowers, all cast in stainless steel and polished till they have the effect of a mirror.
The stainless steel structure was then plated in a collection of vivid hues that give the viewer a sense of joyous childlike exuberance. The mirrored surfaces reflect the light and give the piece a paradoxical weightlessness; as the piece actually weighs around three tons.
When asked what the piece represented, Koons said, “’Tulips’ is a symbol of hope and the strength of life’s energy.” Tulips adds to Steve Wynn’s already prolific art collection. The piece graces the space between Wynn’s two hotels, Wynn and Encore, when asked about the sculpture he said “If you see it you will find the experience totally delicious.”
