Time Is Money

The Corum coin-watch has a long and rich history to look back on. Nearly every president since Richard Nixon has worn the watch with the dial made from a real gold coin. It’s a chronograph that’s proved exceptionally popular with collectors – and in 2006, the manufacturer began to re-issue it.

Watchmakers experimented for a long time using coins as the cases for pocket watches. These models tend to be very fragile, which lead Corum to the idea of using the coin for the dial instead – an idea made possible by the introduction of protective sapphire glass.

The result of these endeavors – the coin watch – was first presented in Basel in 1965.
