“True Detective” is what’s hot in the streets right now, and based on the mystical way the world works that also means “True Detective” parodies now make up 40 percent of the videos uploaded to the Internet.

Despite being a casual fan of the HBO drama (or perhaps because of it), I’m not going to be amused by your run-of-the-mill parody. This purported “Yellow King” theory made me laugh because it perfectly captured the absurd sense of conspiracies and deep readings surrounding the show. I like this one with Joel McHale because it has Joel McHale.

What sets this video apart from Jon Rudnitsky’s is what might be my favorite Rust Cohle impression yet. Sure, the accent isn’t perfect and he might not look exactly like McConaughey, but he captures the character better than anyone else that I’ve seen and the end result is fantastic.
