HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” has been on the air for a little over a month now, covering breaking stories days after they actually happen with a surprising amount of success (probably because they had days to write the jokes).
This week, the show took on Washington Redskins’ owner Dan Snyder, who was in the news this week after publicly confirming that he’s not changing the name of his franchise for what seems to be the hundredth time.
There are a number of theories why he refuses to budge on the issue, but I like to believe that he and Donald Sterling have a billion dollar bet to see which owner with the initials “D.S.” can piss more people off with their bigotry (it’s currently neck and neck).
Oliver takes Snyder to task in this four-minute clip, closing with a hilarious ad comparing the owner’s point of view to other slightly more defensible decisions to highlight just how absurd his reasoning is.
Given Snyder’s track record, it’s doubtful things will change anytime soon, but it doesn’t mean we can’t laugh at him.
