When you are dating someone, meeting the friends and family for the first time is a big deal. Unless you met in high school or college, or he is the kind of guy who invites you over to a big pregame for your first date, chances are you've never really hung out with his friends. So when you finally do, it's important to make a great first impression.
A few months ago, I met my boyfriend's family. I was nervous because I wasn't sure what I was supposed to talk about or how to act because I'm incredibly awkward. But it wasn't bad at all, and I thought it went great. I thought I was very normal.
Later when my boyfriend spoke with his mom, she told him she liked how “I wasn't afraid to be myself.” I don't have too much experience with this whole dating thing and I've never met a guy's family before, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't a compliment.
So next time you meet the family or friends, take it from me: Don't be yourself.
