This Breakdown Of Popular Music Couldn’t Be More Accurate (Photo)

When you listen to the radio for a while, you start to realize that a lot of songs sound the same.

That’s true, at least within a given genre of music. There are really only so many ways to construct a rock song. That’s why they say you really only need to know how to play four chords to make a decent rock record.

Now, one clever Imgur user, by the name of John Atkinson, has put together an infographic that breaks down the anatomy of songs within a number of genres, including rock, pop, country and the blues.

They may seem somewhat reductive at first, but if you listen to enough music, you’ll see that they’re spot on.

They’re also kind of depressing. You would like to think there’s more variation to music nowadays, but it turns out that most songs are more similar than we could have ever imagined.
