15 Qualities That Mean You're A Workaholic And You Love It

If you’re anything like me, you love to work.

Even if you don’t always love what you’re doing, you find a way to make it work because you love making your own money.

I can’t say all the jobs I have worked have been the best jobs out there, but every single time — no matter how much I hated what I was doing — I found ways to make it worth the time.

Shout out to all my fellow workaholics who fall into these categories:

1. You get an average of four to five hours of sleep per night.

It’s not that you don’t want to sleep, in fact, you probably love it. It’s just that life is too short for you to sleep.

You could be finishing a novel, flying to a business meeting in Bangkok or finishing the last draft of your proposal in the time that others are sleeping.

You can sleep when you die. I mean, hey, your sleep tracking app says five hours of sleep is efficient anyway, right?

2. You’re either incredibly organized or a talented hot mess.

If you work as much as I do, you’ve learned the tricks of mastering a calendar, and not just one — you have at least three. You have one on your phone, one online and one on your wall.

And, if you don’t have these things, you’ve learned the art of keeping a good memory because if you didn’t, you would fail.

3. Your first instinct when you wake up is to make coffee.

You don’t complain when you have to wake up, no matter what time of the day it is. Instead, your mind already has it programed to know that it needs to make coffee right away.

4. You also think about your coffee intake all day.

You’ve gotten crafty with coffee. You know that if you drank five cups, you probably need to get some water in there. You also crave coffee like a drug addict.

If there was a way to have a coffee drip in your arm, you’d do it in a heartbeat.

5. You find the most efficient way to do everything.

You find the most efficient way to sleep, travel, spend money and go to the bathroom. You’ve even learned how to make the most of your time in the gym.

If something wastes your time, it makes you angry. You don’t have time to waste; you have work to get done.

6. You know everyone.

A workaholic knows how to market him or herself. You know everyone from top executives to talented street artists.

Heck, even if you wanted a secretary to run your house, you wouldn't get one. You’d rather do the work yourself.

7. You value hard work.

A workaholic doesn’t take the easy path. You know the value of all of the work you put in every day.

You don’t slack off; you don’t even have time to slack off because you know if you do, it’s inefficient.

8. You know the best way to use a smartphone.

You’re not the typical smartphone user. You don’t use your phone to take selfies, but rather, you have an app for everything you need.

You have an app to find you the quickest transportation, the quickest way to get a task done for you, the quickest way to file an expense report, the quickest way to do mobile banking, etc. You use your phone to the most of its abilities.

9. You know how to make work exciting.

You like to live day-by-day, so you know how to make work the best it can be. You joke with people, you take lunch with new people every day and you’ve learned how to network while at work.

You’ve learned that the more fun you can have at work, the more likely you are to want to work more.

10. You don’t take days off.

Never. You know that any day off you take is a loss of money. That’s money that you could use to travel the world, buy a new car or pay off your student loans.

When you do take a planned day off, you go all out. You fly around the world, you buy a new Mercedes, you do whatever it takes to understand the value of all the work you put in.

11. You get annoyed when people tell you you’re a workaholic.

You already know this fact, so why do people feel the need to tell you? You get incredibly annoyed by it because you know that other people are probably just lazy.

They don’t understand why you put in so much work or why you have the goals you do. If you didn’t want to work so much, you wouldn’t. They just don’t get that.

12. You also get annoyed when people don’t work as hard.

There’s nothing more annoying than working somewhere where people slack off. You want to get things done and you want your day to keep moving.

You know that the faster and better you work, the more time you will have at the end of the day to relax. Some people just don’t get that and that drives you nuts.

13. You’re driven.

Anyone who works as hard as you do has an underlying goal. You have things you want to accomplish and you want to change the world.

You don’t have time to sleep because you know that someone else out there is changing the world faster than you are.

You know you have limited time and there are too many things you want to get accomplished in that time. People call you crazy, but you know that deep down, you’re doing what’s best for you.

14. You have a small group of friends.

Many people don’t want to be friends with you, and you’re okay with that. You actually couldn’t care less. You only want friends who understand why you work so much.

You don’t have time for a significant other who complains about you. You only want people in your life who will stick with you. You don’t have time for fake friends.

15. You’re successful.

It doesn’t matter what your definition of success is. There’s a good chance that if you work hard, you’re doing something right.

You’re making a lot of money, changing the lives of others and working on large-scale projects.

Whatever you’re doing, you’re an amazingly successful person and you love it. It’s what drives you, and it’s what gets you out of bed at 4 am.

And for this reason, you don’t care if people call you a workaholic. You embrace it.
