Resolution Regardless, Keep These 7 Things In Mind For 2015

With the New Year comes another set of resolutions, new goals and high intentions for making the upcoming 365 days the best yet. As important as resolutions are, having the right mindset and outlook on things is just as necessary for having a great year.

Having a strong mentality is what you need most to stay loyal to the change you promised to make come midnight. Here are seven things to keep in mind to keep you on track this New Year and to make 2015 the best year yet.

Do all you can while you can still do it.

As the saying goes, “Time is of the essence.” Oftentimes, we forget to take advantage of the things that are so readily available to us or opportunities that have unlabeled expiration dates on them.

We assume that what’s here now will be there always. In reality, time and opportunity can’t stay as long as we’d like them to.

So, do all you can while you’re in the place and state you can do it. Whether it be running that half marathon, seeing the places and things you want to see or applying for that job — go for it. The most successful years come when you try.


Things can only get better.

So, 2014 wasn’t your greatest year? Who cares? It simply means 2015 already has potential to be better than before. And, if it was your greatest year, who’s saying that this upcoming year won’t top the last?

There is never a limit for how great things can be. You can always keep climbing, setting higher goals and aiming for something better than before. Make this your mantra for the most frustrating of days.


There are always options.

If something doesn’t work out the way you wanted it to, remember that there is always something else you can do.

We are so easily irritated when things don’t go our way. That frustration just leads to worry and anxiety, which only causes more issues. Think about what else can happen rather than letting it get to you.

Maybe something didn’t work out because it just wasn’t meant to be, hence another (probably even better) direction to take.


Take it one day at a time.

For all of those goals you’ve set, all of the deadlines coming up and all of the tasks you must finish, here’s a reminder that everything takes time. Nothing comes all at once. This can apply to school, your career, your health, your relationships — everything in life.

The more you stress yourself out, the harder it will be for you to get somewhere or accomplish a goal. Be patient and realistic. And, if you have to rush, rush when necessary, but rush with poise and composure.


Time with others is important.

It’s easy to get caught up in school and your career as the work piles on. However, don’t forget to take a breather from the office, the library or the gym when necessary.

Don’t stretch yourself so thin that you forget how important it is to relax and take some time off. Spending time with others is essential for happiness and stability.


Alone time is also important.

Ample time buried in your work and too much time with others without enough time for yourself isn’t a great habit to keep.

A part of a healthy, balanced lifestyle includes making time for yourself. Sometimes, you need a detox from it all just to take it easy alone. Your most committed relationship should be with yourself.


You are, always have been and always will be your biggest priority.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, sometimes we get too caught up and forget we are our only given obligation.

You cannot put 100 percent into anything or anyone if you are not fully present. You cannot neglect your happiness or health. It is necessary to remember that your biggest priority is to take care of yourself first. And, once you’ve taken care of yourself, the rest will come easier and fall better into place.

Here’s to a better year, bundles of success, growth and maturity and, most importantly, happiness. May 2015 be marvelous.
