5 Ways To Stand Out In Your 20s When You Feel Like You're Always Blending In

by Alexa Mellardo

There will be a time in your 20s when you feel as though you're stuck in neutral.

We all experience it at one point or another, and the struggle can be consuming.

If you're dealing with this at the moment, you probably feel like something's missing, although you're not exactly sure what that one thing is just yet.

There may not be a lot of “good” or exciting things going on in your love life, career, and/or social circle.

You feel like you're walking through the daily motions, but not actually living. You're just, plain and simple, blending in.

You begin to compare your life to your friends and acquaintances, and that's no place to be. You long for an escape ASAP, and have absolutely no clue where to begin.

Here are five ways to stand out in your 20s when you feel like you're constantly blending in.

1. Be yourself, and not someone else.

First and foremost, identify yourself.

Figure out the style, career and zip code that best identifies the life you want to live, and who you are.

This step may involve distancing yourself from any toxic people in your life who thrive off of controlling you, or dedicating a solid block of time to applying to every job opening in your dream career field.

By following in anyone else's footsteps, you're setting yourself up for a disappointing, mediocre life. You deserve to get in touch with your inner self to gain the confidence you need to pave your own way.

2. Give your life a complete and utter overhaul.

If you need to get your ducks in a row, make a checklist to get organized. Break your life down into categories, and assess what needs fixing or updating.

Know when it's the prime time to declutter, so your life is way more navigable.

If you need to reorganize your apartment, and take all of the clothes sitting in your closet you don't wear anymore to consignment, you'll feel so much more refreshed to remove one cluster fuck at a time from your daily routine.

3. You need to believe in and love your assets before anyone else will.

If you don't believe in and love yourself, you most likely will not attract any good things to come into your life.

Karma is an actual thing, you know. She can be a classy bitch, but you don't want to cross her.

There aren't many guys out there who will be attracted to someone who isn't confident in herself and doesn't take the initiative to make things happen in her life. If you don't believe in yourself, how can anyone else?

Make positive moves, and you will stand out. Good karma will make its way back into your life.

4. Motivate yourself to have fun.

Whether this involves going to more happy hours with friends and co-workers after work, or signing up for a pole dancing class with the gals, it's important to HAVE FUN.

You may be an extremely busy chick, but this is one thing that certainly should not be overlooked. By getting involved in more things, you'll also be putting yourself out there more and meeting new people.

Don't get stuck into that routine of going straight home after work every day to lose yourself in some Netflix.

5. Travel to a foreign country solo.

Sure, traveling with friends is nothing short of spectacular, and you'll make memories that last a lifetime. But, traveling alone to a place you've never been before and immersing yourself in a new culture is necessary, and so fulfilling.

This is all part of finding yourself, and identifying the exact person you want to portray to the world.

When you're in a rut and feel like giving up, let me tell you a little secret: This “blah” phase, is just that: a phase.

Things will start looking up once you make necessary moves, and always remember that nothing's going to change if you don't change it.
