The One Thing You Need To Be Truly Happy In College If You're Single

When you're single AF in college, it can seem like everyone else is in the supportive, loving relationship that you want to have.

You're at the age when some friends begin to get engaged, move in with their SO, or at least have a new bae they're totally crazy about.

It can be a little surprising to watch those you love commit to things early on in this next chapter, but it's so exciting.

Before you convince yourself you're missing out on being head-over-heels in love while you're in college, be thankful for the time you have to yourself.

The entire purpose of your college years is to learn new things about yourself and what you want the most out of life. While it can be nice having a partner by your side throughout the process, being single means you can give yourself the attention you truly deserve.

Self-love is the one ultimate key to living a happy young adult life, whether you have a parter, or not.

This was a lesson I learned firsthand when the relationship with my high school boyfriend ended during my second year of college.

As we started figuring out who we were as individuals, our lives began to go in different directions. This is super common in young adult relationships and is nothing to be ashamed of, but it's heartbreaking, nonetheless.

Especially after a long-term relationship, you're used to having someone else play a major role in your life. When you're left to your own devices, though, you really begin to learn about yourself and what you want out of your relationships and life in general.

A big part of the college experience is learning to live life on your own. It's not to say that a relationship would get in the way of that, but being single lets you take full responsibility for yourself, without having to worry about anyone else.

Just because you're single, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you or that you'll never be in a relationship. It just means you get to love yourself with everything you've got.

If you spend your waking hours wanting a relationship, you'll be missing out on all that you have going on now.

Between classes, work, extracurriculars, and a social life, you have so many exciting opportunities along your journey. That's something to be proud of.

Sure, having a partner would be a super nice addition to your already rockin' life, but being in a relationship during college can be a struggle as well.

If you don't know who you are or what you're looking for in life (which is totally OK), being in a stable, supportive, and healthy relationship can be quite a challenge.

If having a bae is what you really want right now, then go ahead and get looking, but don't let that get in the way of taking care of yourself.

You are the only person who has to live with yourself for the rest of your life, so putting yourself first isn't much of a stretch.
