10 Things To Remember When You're Single AF And Struggling With It

by Amy Horton

It gets tough when you've been single for a long stretch of time.

You begin to feel as if you'll never find love again. The longer you go on, the worse it gets.

But don't let the sadness take over and rule you. When you're really down in the dumps, here are a few crucial facts you must recall:

1. You are not your relationship status.

Unfortunately, one of the first questions we all ask each other is about our relationships.

It can get really depressing to tell everyone over and over again that yes, you're still single; no, you're not dating anyone at all and yes, you do perhaps see your looming future as an old lady with 15 cats.

Stop worrying about it. Your love life is not who you are.

2. You have inherent value.

You are a living, breathing, unique individual. No one else can complete you because you are already complete. You may want a partner in life, but you do not require one.

Remember this when you feel like something is missing.

3. There are many people who love you.

You may not have a lover, but your life is not lacking love.

You have family. You have friends. You have co-workers.

You have teachers, students or employees. Maybe you even have a pet.

There is much to appreciate, so you shouldn't waste time mourning your temporary lack of a romantic partner.

4. You have a full life.

Your single status does not equal a life devoid of meaning. You have your job and your hobbies. You have people to spend time with socially, and a home to relax in afterward.

You may also have a workout routine or certain events you enjoy attending regularly. At the end of the day, you might realize it would be difficult for you to fit a man into your hectic schedule.

5. It's all about perspective.

Are you going to see the glass half-empty or half-full? You'll be much happier if you take a positive approach.

Shocker: You will also be more attractive to others if you have a bright and joyful attitude, as opposed to one of sadness and gloom.

Go figure. Stop worrying about men, and that just might be the time you'll snag one.

6. High-quality love doesn't come easily.

The truth is, if you want something great, you're almost definitely going to have to wait.

Take your time enjoying your single life while you're keeping an eye open for that special guy.

There's no need to waste precious time pouting because you haven't found him yet. It'll happen when you're ready for him.

7. Patience is your best friend.

There's no need to rush through everything because you're too impatient to find your forever love. When you do, you'll miss the days you were independent and free.

Take your time and enjoy everything you're doing right now. Life goes by fast, and before you know it, you'll be looking back and wishing you had appreciated it more.

8. The answer might be in your approach.

If you're stressed about your single status, take a look at your life. Obviously, something you're doing isn't working.

Take a big step back and observe it objectively, without judging yourself. It's not like anything is wrong with you.

It could be as simple as making a few basic changes in your attitude and approach.

9. You have the power to shake things up.

Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh new job, hobby or neighborhood.

Once you begin changing certain elements of your life, it'll be easier to shift others.

Changes motivate and inspire you to do more and better. They'll help you adjust the way you approach meeting men, dating and relationships as well.

10. Single life should be cherished.

It's temporary, even if you don't feel like it is. You should appreciate every awesome minute.

Appreciate doing WHAT you want, WHEN you want.

Appreciate walking around your apartment naked, having impromptu dance parties and inviting people over to hang in the middle of the night if you feel like it.

Make the most of your independence.
