Too many people have the mistaken belief that success relies on achievements- on material rewards attained from reaching the goals that one sets for him or herself.

Sure, achieving your goals is the end-goal of success, but the means used to get there- the change in mentality that must occur in order to reach your goals- the means are what success is.

Being able to convince yourself that you are worthy of success, to realize that the hunger you have for success is all that matters to you, to be able to drop and forget the person that you have been up to this point in your life and create a new you- is what success truly is. Here are 9 necessary beliefs that every successful person must possess.

1.     Problems Are Challenges That Can And Will Be Overcome

Problems are only there to test your focus, not your abilities. Each and every problem that comes your way has a solution, a solution that you are capable of coming up with and implementing. There are no challenges that are beyond your abilities. If there is a will, there is a way, and if you are focused you will find a way.

2.     Only Do Things That Mean Something

The thing about being successful is that it requires will. It requires the will to get up early every day and do what needs to be done. There are many things that we can force ourselves to do for a short period of time, but unless you are passionate about what you are doing or about the person that you want to become, then you will inevitably fail in the long run.

You are only human and cannot work towards anything that you don’t fully- with every cell in your body- feel a need to achieve. Find the hunger, the passion, and you will succeed.

3.     Anticipation Is A Guess. Sometimes You Guess Wrong.

It is important to plan. It’s dumb to believe that your plans will pan out the way you anticipate them to. There is only so much planning that a person can or should do. When it comes down to it, things always arise seemingly out of nowhere.

You can have all the details planned out to the T, but there is one factor that cannot ever be overlooked: human inaccuracy. People make mistakes and, unfortunately, other peoples’ mistakes can have just as much negative effect on your plans as your own mistakes.

But not to worry, as long as you are prepared to handle whatever setbacks come your way, then you’ll be just fine. If you’re going to be anticipating anything, anticipate shit not going exactly the way that you planned.

4.     Embrace Your Fears

Feeling fear is a good thing. If you are afraid of a task because it could potentially lead to your failure, then you know that what you are doing is headed in the right direction.

Being afraid is your sub-consciousness’ way of letting you know that what you are doing is important to you- so important to you that even the slightest possibility of failure, of not succeeding, is enough to give you nightmares. Embrace that fear. Get to know it well because you want it to creep in on you in everything that you do.

5.     Forget Other People

Other people’s opinions- in all reality- do not matter the very least. You are the one living the show. You have privileged access to the world that you are constantly creating, not anyone else.

They have their own show to live; if they aren’t happy with their viewing, too bad for them. You are the only person that can have some notion of what will make you happy, and you most definitely are the only person that can make you happy.

6.      The Only Time That Exists Is Now

The past is long gone and tomorrow is never guaranteed. Hell, the next hour isn’t guaranteed. Don’t procrastinate because the longer you do, the less the chances are that you will succeed. Procrastination is inaction. Inaction never results in anything because it is static- it has no force, no way of causing progress or change. Procrastination is failure disguised with comfort.

7.     Positive Results Require A Positive Lifestyle

Positivity is contagious. By starting with positive thoughts, your life will transform for the better. Thinking positively leads to positive actions, resulting in positive outcomes. Your mind is your world. Whatever manifests itself there engulfs the rest of your reality.

A positive outlook on life can turn the hardest life into a simple problem that can be resolved simply by keeping the positivity and building your success atop it. Unfortunately, negativity works the same way and, like a disease, is much more contagious than positivity. Negativity is like a poison, but positivity is the cure. The beauty of positivity is that it doesn’t require anything or anyone other than you.

8.     Perfection Isn’t A Goal; It’s Unattainable.

Success is not perfection because if it were, then success would be unattainable. In order to succeed you need to be constantly growing and bettering yourself as a person. Always growing and discovering parts of yourself that you never knew were buried is success.

Attaining perfection is never a goal; becoming a better version of yourself is. Don’t get caught up on some of your minor flaws- we all have them. Instead, focus on the things that you feel are important to change or that you feel you need to work on. Cultivate yourself remembering that the blemishes are what make you human.

9.     You Are In Control

You are the driver. You are the one making and following through with decisions. You created the life, the world that you live in. The state that you are in, the place in your life that you are in, the success that you are experiencing and all the failures that you suffered, all a direct result of you actions, decisions, beliefs, and state of mind.

You cannot blame anyone for who you are and how you are living- it’s entirely your fault. Yes, life has a funny way of throwing difficulties and tragedies our way, but there is always a way out of the hole- always a light at the end of the tunnel. You just need to have the courage to take the shovel and dig your way out. Or don’t. But make sure to get comfortable with your situation because you will be there for quite some time- thanks to you of course.
