Doing What You Want, When You Want To
What I am talking about is what you actually want out of life, what will be the stuff that makes you happy at the end of the day, and lets you spend your last day regret-free? It’s not anything you’ve thought of before.
I’m talking about something that’s never even crossed your mind. Between worrying about where you are going to work and if you are on the right track in life, it is safe to say your mind is cluttered at the moment. I remember, years ago, in one of my first classes, my professor asked me which I would rather have: all the money in the world or the power to do what you want whenever you want it. Of course being young and naïve, I took the money.
She then explained one of the most life changing concepts I have ever heard. She said “Preston, what does all the money in the world matter if you allow it to ruin your life and make you miserable, because with more money comes a lot more problems.” She was quite hot, so I was trying hard not to stare at her tits and actually listen to her.
She continued, “The power of doing what you want, whenever you want, has no price, it can’t be bought with any amount of money in the world, and it is something you should strive for more than money. Because it is the experiences that are worth more than the amount you have in your account when you die.”
My attention shifted from wanting to make all the money in the world to working towards having the power of doing what I want, whenever I want. Once you have that power, you already have the money to propel that power, so essentially you are killing two birds with one stone — but there is a difference.
Having the power to do what you want, whenever you want, is the secret to living the most fulfilling life. It means that you are living life the way you want and aren’t allowing anything to hold you back. Society tries to tell us what to do, and what is right, and many fall for the trap. That is what makes having this power so special.
Money is transient and unstable; it could be gone tomorrow. What if all the world currencies just fall apart? It is a piece of paper, a measuring point, and it may allow us to do what we want, whenever we want. However, when we let our lives be controlled by money, we opt out of having the power to do what we want, when we want, because money controls our decisions, our actions and what we do on a daily basis. We stop living and just exist.
When we realize that it’s not the money that matters, but being present in the moment and having the experiences that we want to have, that’s when we realize the secret to life. Different things control people’s lives, but happiness comes when these people take control instead.
You are the one that dictates your path, and you should strive and work hard to have the power to do what you want, whenever you want it. Want to wake up and fly to Thailand? Do it. Want to bang a Bulgarian hooker on a yacht in St. Tropez? Do it. Don’ t let anything in life chain you down because not having control makes you miserable.
