Take What You Want: Only Suckers Wait For Handouts

by Paul Hudson

You’re entitled to believe what you want, but the reality is that people are egotistical creatures who are always looking out for themselves first and foremost. Some are more ruthless than others, but it all boils down to the fact that these people are always trying to please themselves. This goes for every person that you know and double for the people that you don’t know.

It’s not that the world is working against you — it’s that because everyone is working for themselves, there’s really no one working towards making you happier. The only person that can make things happen for you in life is yourself. No one just gives handouts — unless, of course, it somehow benefits them at the same time. You are pretty much on your own in this world, so don’t wait for a handout — only suckers do that.

If you hope to get what you want out of life then there is only one way of getting it: by taking it. For whatever reason, the idea of ‘taking’ what you want is associated with a negative connotation usually reminiscent of some sort of criminal actions. However, taking what you want and stealing are two, slightly, different things.

The truth is that if you want something worth having then it’s likely that someone else wants that very same thing. It’s not always true that one person having that something will require someone else not having it, but it is sometimes the case. Usually, however, this is not the case. Most of the time taking what you want will not affect another person’s ability to take the same. This doesn’t apply to unique things or objects, but when we are talking about big picture things such as money, success or a type of lifestyle, then there is no risk of harming someone else’s chances by going after the achievements yourself.

But like I said before, people are egocentric creatures and — when push comes to shove — they will always look out for themselves first. Yet, most people still sit on their asses and wait for handouts. It’s ridiculous really. There are millions of people in the world that have no choice but to wait for handouts because they are in positions that won’t even guarantee that they survive until the end of the month.

People are faced with extreme poverty, living in areas with little to no access to water — areas riddled with diseases that we have already cured where people are dying from lack of medical attention. These are the people that have no choice but to wait for handouts. They are waiting for handouts from people like you, people that are in the position to take what they want. They are waiting for you to take what you want and then to share it with them because they are unable to take what they need. Nevertheless, probability says that you are waiting for a handout yourself.

Although Generation-Y is notoriously known for feeling privileged and expecting things to fall into their laps, this sort of laziness has been plaguing humankind since the dawn of days. People have always been lazy and have always hoped to ride on the back of someone more diligent and hungry for success. People have always looked for an easier way out when in reality, in time, they could have taken and achieved anything and everything they ever wanted. It takes hard work and dedication, but, more importantly, it takes understanding that everything is in reach and then finding the courage to reach for it.

There are no handouts in life — not real handouts. Anything that sounds to good to be true is too good to be true and getting lucky is only lucky if you’re making progress on your own. If you’re not doing anything with your life then you’ll never get lucky; if you don’t play then you can’t win. What is it that you want out of life? What is it that you want today? You are capable of getting anything you want as long as you attempt it. Just as not going out will guarantee you being left with your dick in your hand, not attempting to be successful will leave you a failure. Pieces will only fall into place if you are moving. Being stationary does not allow for change to occur — without motion, there is no change.

Pick one thing, one goal, in the beginning of the week and then go after it. Small and simple is the best way to start and will prepare you for taking the bigger and more important things in life. Go after that goal until you either succeed or fail. If you succeed, pick something else that you want. If you fail, then learn the lesson that needs to be learned and try again.

There is always a way to get what you want — a way that does not require breaking the law or getting yourself into trouble (although being a troublemaker isn’t always a bad thing). You can be respectful of others and still take what you want. Get in the habit of doing and achieving. It is the best habit to have and it will get you anything your heart desires. Don’t take no for an answer and always find a different approach if your original approach didn’t work. Persistence will often break down the toughest of walls.

If you’re one of those people that still believes that life will give you what you desire without having to put in any effort, then all I can say to you is good luck and thank you. Good luck in waiting for a miracle that will never happen and thank you for making it easier for me to take what I need. If you’re not taking it then someone else is.
