Recognizing The Glue Between Success And Happiness Is The Key To Life

by Brandon Ochoa

When I started my website, I sought to help people accomplish their goals.

I strongly believe that through personal development, you can achieve career success and through those together, you can find happiness.

After writing about what steps people can take to succeed, I wanted to take the opportunity to share more on the formula for success (not the mechanics of it) because it is easy to get caught up in the process to succeed without actually feeling like you’re getting there.

In this life, there are at least two universal things that everyone wants to achieve: happiness and success. Merriam-Webster defines success as a “favorable or desired outcome,” and happiness as “a state of well-being and contentment.” There is a great connection to be made here: Happiness and success go together, like white on rice.

If you are successful, you are likely happy and if you are happy, you are likely successful. However, most people fail to recognize what makes them happy.

Different things make different people happy. For some, it might be career-oriented success, for others, it might be familial success and for others, it might be something else entirely. If you are reading this, you probably find a certain degree of happiness through your career development.

I find happiness through achieving goals and spending time with those I care about. I have found that when I am not achieving goals, I tend to spend more time with my family to compensate for that lost happiness.

The simple truth is that it doesn’t work like this. Rather, you must find a balance. We often hear stories of workaholics who shun their families and of devoted family members who flail in the workplace. The answer is to make both aspects of life work for you.

When you are working, work harder than you ever have before. When you are doing whatever else makes you happy, do it more mindfully than ever before.

Goals are extremely instrumental for success. When you accomplish goals, you will feel greater than you did prior. If you are working toward a promotion at work, talk about it to everyone. If you force people to admire you for wanting to work harder, you will be fresher in their minds when there’s an opening for a higher position.

If you want to start your own website, do it. If you want to spend more time with your kids, make it a goal and execute. Through achievement comes fulfillment.

Everyone harbors different definitions of what success means, but whatever it is, make goals and work toward them. If you know you need to make $50,000 this year to accomplish all of the things you want to do, aim for $60,000 and you will likely find yourself living the good life.

So, make goals! It’s that simple and as soon as you start making them, you will work toward a better future, however you define what that means.

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”- Henry David Thoreau
