Fear Is Nothing But An Obstacle, Overcome It With Stronger Desires

by Tejas Parekh

Desire is defined as a strong feeling of wanting to have something, or wishing for something to happen. Fear is defined as an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.

There are moments in life when we realize that it is natural to desire external things, experiences, or people in our lives.  Desire is a natural part of the human experience, and if we lived without desire, then we would only exist (like rocks or any other inanimate object).  If we didn’t have the desire to eat when we felt hungry, then we would not be aware of what our bodies need.  The same applies to almost everything an individual wants.  If an individual desires more quality time, experiences, wealth, or health, then an individual must realize that life circumstances can be the way that he or she desires it to be.

It is only natural to desire the best in life. After all, everything in this world is here for human beings to experience.  It is your choice whether you want to experience it, or not, and to make the best decision that will ensure the wellbeing of yourself and loved ones.  At times when an individual desires something, there are often mental barriers and sometimes-physical barriers that prevent him or her to attain whatever he or she wants.  These barriers may be realistic, and it may seem like there is no way around the circumstances or the situation at hand.

However, the old idiom says, “If there is a will, there is a way.”

If your job consumes your time and defines you as a person, maybe it’s time to rethink your career and the affect it’s having on you.  Anybody that tries to place limitations on, or tries to categorize, you is imposing upon your freedom as a human being.  As a human being, you have every right to be the person you want to be, and you have every right to do the things that you want to do because you are free.  You are free to desire the things, experiences and people you want in your life.

At times it is our own selves holding us back from the things we most desire.  Desire is a natural thing in our lives, and it is only natural to express ourselves and live according to our desires.  If nobody listened to their desires, then we would be dull, primitive beings.  Our desires shape the world we live in, and it is up to us to understand and know what we truly desire.

People do not have to accept the common desires that are being promoted in the media, music, on television and movies; although that can be inspiring, you do not have to follow those guidelines of living.  You have the freedom to live according to yourself, you have the freedom and right to live according to whatever your dream life is as long, as it does not harm anybody or anything.

Fear is the emotion that arises when there is doubt.  Let me rephrase that, excitement is the emotion that arises when your desires are being doubted.  Fear is your mind thinking of all the possible outcomes.  Fear is actually a good thing, if understood.  Fear arouses several reasons why not to do something, and if all of those reasons are understood, and handled, then there is nothing to fear.  Fear is a lack of preparation and knowledge.  At times, everything cannot be certain, and there are moments when an individual must risk certain things in his or her life, and there will be moments of doubt.  Those moments of risk have the potential to define you as a person, and those moments of risk are often worth it.

Let the sentiment of desire override the sentiment of fear if, and only if, you are living ethically and morally.
