The Weeknd is back with some seriously good mix tape vibes. Amidst an upwelling of covers of Beyonce’s banger “Drunk In Love,” this Canadian-born recording artist hit it out of the park.
Under the moniker The Weeknd, Abel Tesfaye rose to fame back in 2011 for his particular brand of crooning and seductive alternative R&B. His heavy-hitting debut mix tape, House Of Balloons, impressed fans from the start, in part due to Tesfaye’s relative inexperience and age.
According to Tesfaye’s twitter account, he undertook this particular remix to celebrate his 24th birthday. With all-original lyrics stacked on an altered beat, Tesfaye comes through with the kind of evident self-awareness that won him fans from the start.
Compare this track with Kanye’s remix earlier today, and one makes a lot more sense than the other. I think it’s safe to say Hov would approve of The Weeknd’s efforts.
