GoThinkBig Gives Gen-Y Opportunities To Live Their Dream

The ensuing effects of the global financial crisis have left millennials underemployed due to the utter dearth of opportunities available. Our generation’s opportunities have been stifled as the global economy has been plagued by the vestiges remaining from the poor decisions of our predecessors.

Fortunately, opportunities like those offered by the GoThinkBig project are reshaping the bleak landscape millennials are facing.

Launched in 2012 by O2 and Bauer Media*, GoThinkBig.co.uk is a youth work experience and internship initiative designed to provide a gateway to employment for young people in the UK. More than 250,000 young people use the site to browse work placements with some of the country’s biggest organisations including ITV, Spotify, Channel 4 and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen.

GoThinkBig recently teamed up with chart-topping duo Rizzle Kicks to recruit almost 100 young people in the UK to help produce the music video for their new single, “Lost Generation.”

The initiative took young talented individuals and appointed them into roles which provided the opportunity to shadow experienced professionals on set. For an aspiring director this may very well be the most fulfilling experience in one’s career—the catalyst towards a professional career as a director.

Speaking on the campaign, Tokunbo Ajasa-Oluwa, Head of GoThinkBig said, “jobs in the media and creative industries are extremely sought after, so working with successful young people like Rizzle Kicks highlights exactly what it is possible to achieve. To work on a music video for one of the UK’s biggest selling artists is a massive opportunity and one we hope will inspire people to apply for work experience opportunities.”

The most fulfilling work experiences are not quantified in financial terms or even the reputation of one’s employer, but in the relevant work experience obtained from the opportunity. The results of the GoThinkBig Rizzle Kicks campaign were overwhelmingly successful. With over 3,000 applications from across the UK, two of the youth crew, James and Esrael have gone on to obtain further work in the industry to continue building their professional portfolios.
