For this edition of Quickie With A DJ, Elektro sits down with Shreddie Mercury for a casual interview! Along with the interview, we have shared with you his his latest reworking, “Spectrum”! Enjoy!

If you could have one superhero power, what would it be?

The power to make other people go to the bathroom involuntarily. I mean, how would they fight back after that?

First job you ever had?

I used to make pizzas at a grocery store in town. It was as thrilling as it sounds.

Favorite candy / snack?

I’m addicted to Twix bars, and as for a snack, pita chips are my current obsession.

What do you drive?

A very dented 2001 Mercury Sable.

Kind of watch do you wear?

No watch here, but I used to have this watch that you could play Star Fox on that I got from a cereal box a long time ago. I miss that thing.

Favorite Sneakers?

Currently sporting some black Nike SB Bruins. I love these things.

If you had one night left to live, how would you spend it?

I’d abuse the powers of the Make-a-wish Foundation and get any music act I could, electronic or not to play in my house. I’d call it “Shred’s dead, baby”.

Favorite video game?

It’s a 3-way tie between Super Smash Brothers (Brawl or the original), Team Fortress 2, and Super Dodge Ball for the NES.

Can’t leave home without?

My keys. It’s really difficult to drive without those things.

First DJ you ever saw live?

Lucky Date a few months ago actually. I’m still quite new to the whole “going to shows” thing.

How would you describe your style?

Gather every Mega Man and Castlevania character and have them enter a dance-off.

What are your thoughts on the dance music culture right now?

I personally welcome how mainstream it’s getting, as I get far less eye-rolling when I tell people I produce it. I also love the widespread variety of its fans. You have your kinda nerdier people (like myself) who pay full attention to the music’s production and musicality, as well as casual listeners who just feel like partying/dancing.

Favorite track to play?

Right now it’s Madeon’s remix of Martin Solveig “The Night Out.” It’s wonderful.

What can party goers expect from your sets?

Mostly melodic, fun, bouncy tracks. Also I tend to make really stupid faces when I play live. I won’t be doing any cake-throwing or champagne-spraying most likely.

Reading ‘Anaconda’ As Spoken Word Poetry Doesn’t Make It Any Classier (Video)

Popular music isn’t typically known for its introspective lyrics and experimental production because when people are trying to have a good time, they tend to avoid songs about overlooked crimes against humanity performed in 11/4 time. Instead, they tend to gravitate toward songs with nostalgic samples, sexually charged lyrics and even racy music videos. Nicki […]

5 Ways Working On Disaster Relief Changed My Life Forever

On May 20, 2013, an EF5 Tornado scorched a 17-mile path through a heavily populated section of Moore, Oklahoma. Twenty-five people lost their lives, almost 400 more were injured and countless homes incurred major structural damage. The almost 2-mile radius of the twister meant that along all 17 of those miles, everything you could see […]

#SniffTest: 16 Signs You Wish Your Mom Still Did Your Laundry

Doing laundry is literally a first world pain. It’s the most oxymoronic, time-consuming activity because there is actually nothing you can do to speed up the process. You just have to sit there while the washing cycle finishes so you can then transfer your wet clothes into the dryer. If you don’t have the luxury […]

20 Things ‘Gilmore Girls’ Taught Me About Being In My 20s

Before I graduated from high school, drastically cut my bangs or even began to obsess over Mindy Kaling, I lived in a world where small-town charm was “the thing” and “Gilmore Girls” was my life. Netflix announced that it will begin streaming all seven seasons of “Gilmore Girls” starting today, so, of course, October 1 […]

Busted! Father Gets Caught Doing His 9-Year-Old’s Vocab Homework (Photo)

It’s no secret parents help their kids with homework most of the time, but it’s one of those things teachers prefer to ignore. Unfortunately, Reddit user Chestpants12 made it impossible for his 9-year-old son Ryan’s teacher to look the other way. In a word-scrambling assignment, Ryan’s dad wrongly identified a scrambled word as “appraised” — […]

How Our Futures Depend On How We Focus On The Present

There I was, seated on top of a hill, overlooking the surrounding terrain, as the mist headed my way. My friends grappled with the GoPro to capture our magical moments of peaceful abundance of nature surrounding us. I watched them and began to take out my iPhone to capture more silly moments. At this point, […]
