Rumor Debunked: Steve Aoki Is A Real DJ

by Daniel Lampert

About two weeks ago, a website called Wunderground.ie came out with an article titled, "Steve Aoki Shocks EDM World By Admitting He Is Not An Actual DJ." This news made headlines almost everywhere. It caused a huge stir in the EDM community and had many of Steve Aoki's fans up in arms about what was supposedly said.

The article goes as far as to falsely quote Aoki as saying, "I wanted to explore the fickle nature of popular music fads by devising a public and onstage persona that could push the bounds of ridiculous behaviour to an extreme and still manage to get away with it.” This persona mentioned that Steve Aoki has created for himself, as ridiculous as it is, is actually Steve just being Steve. Have no fear, this article was meant to be completely satirically and isn't real.

According to the website, their own personal disclaimer states, "Wunderground is a fictionalized, satirical publication. Its content should in no way be interpreted as an actual record of events, unless a story specifically states that its contents are an actual recording of events. These stories are also not intended to be, nor should they be construed as, attempts to predict the future course of any individual or entity, but should be viewed only as parody." So what I am getting at here is that Steve Aoki is a real DJ!

Every time I have had the privilege of seeing him perform live, I leave the show wanting to go right back. Regardless of his ridiculous antics and the stuff he does when he performs, the man can actually make music. Over the past few years, Aoki has risen up the ranks in the DJ world and has garnered the respect of almost every major DJ. I fully support Steve Aoki and how he goes about his business. It's important to put on a good show and that is exactly what Steve Aoki does, while also being able to go back into the studio and produce some high quality music.

Well I guess it's time I give my own personal opinion on how I felt about this article. As a huge Electronic Dance Music fan, I felt that the piece was terrible even if it was meant to be fake. I live for all things dance music and I am so pro-everything EDM.

I truly believe being a DJ and a producer is an art and is something that takes years of practice to get good at. People say producing is easy, but there is truly nothing easy about it. All these DJs are musically gifted and capitalize on their talents to make the music they produce. Whether it be playing the piano or the drums, they are always pushing the boundaries of what they do and how they produce music. So when I hear fake news, it definitely stirs up my emotions.
